A couple things I’ve been hiding over here

I’ve been hiding a couple burms over here for a while. They were given to me by a friend along with a literal truck load of vision cages a few months go. Can’t say enough good things about these girls, after keeping Retics for so long :joy:

Andromeda is a Hypo Het Labyrinth

Aurora is an Albino Het Labyrinth

I feel like I deprived myself of having a couple of giant potatoes for the last 10-12 years. They’re essentially massive ball pythons that are more outgoing. I now wonder if I just love my retics out sheer stubbornness, cause the calmest of them of are still giant active corn snakes compared the burms :joy::rofl:

My two retics have just been little grumps who are WAY too food motivated. The male has been opening up more for me with just kinda, putting a hand on him in the enclosure though so that makes me feel a bit better. Sometimes he just needs a tap to remind him I’m not a snack.
I should probably give in to more of that food motivation for the female though. I was hoping she’d cycle, but I’m not wanting to just overfeed her. =_=;

Giant potatoes sound nice though! The pieds I’ve seen popping up more lately have been gorgeous little guys. But classic albino burms are still just a nice snake to look at

Would you recommend burms over retics for someone looking for that type of snake but is nervous about the flighty reputation of retics?

My experience is very minimal…
A poorly socialized burn is still a dangerous snake, and can weigh in a bit heavier than a similarly sized retic. But it’s definitely not as common an occurrence as in Retics. Burms just tend to respond more favorably to frequent handling and can chill much easier than a retic.

There’s a joke about being 30. You should have anxiety. You should have a dog. The dog has anxiety.
I feel like since I already had the above beforehand, I needed a snake with anxiety and that’s my female retic. Lol

Interesting perspectives on their personalities. I appreciate learning about the impressions of experienced folks with different species.

I really love Andromeda’s pattern and color. They’re both pretty, but she’s my fave.
