Helleria brevicornis, a unique thing about these isopods are they only give birth once a LIFETIME. (Some people are thinking more than once can be achieved with right circumstances, but only time will tell) they also protect their babies.

Do we know why they only give birth once? Do they live super short lives, does giving birth kill them? How cool!

I’m not 100% sure. I do know they are the only isopod that’s in this particular family. Seems like the gap between land and sea isopods.
I don’t think females die once they drop babies cause they protect them after (not sure for how long though).
