Absorbed Follicles?

Hello! I’m looking to see if anyone can consult me on one of my female ball pythons. I got an ultrasound machine a few of months ago, and went through to measure follicles on all of my females. This one in particular had about 10mm follicles at the beginning of September, 12mm by the next week. I ended up selling the male I was pairing her to, and have been waiting on a new male to grow to size before pairing. I was hoping she would hold off on developing until he’s ready, but I don’t know if she did.

I ended up moving and haven’t been back in the swing of things until recently, but went to check on everyone’s follicles again a few days ago and hers are… gone? I seriously don’t think I could find a single one, whereas I was finding lots in every other female. When females reabsorb, is it typical for all of them to be gone?? There’s not too much about reabsorption, so I just don’t really know what to expect the ultrasound to look like if that is what’s happened. To make things more confusing, I’ve been observing her spending her time on the hot side and she has been off food for almost a month.

If there was not a chance for them to ovulate then yes, the follicles would reabsorb and disappear.
If they hadn’t and the snakes haven’t developed or laid eggs then there could be a risk of infection.

Once they ovulate they would become slugs or eggs.

Most likely culprit was the move. I had 2 girls as proven breeders reabsorb their first year with me because of the move to my location. Next year will hopefully be better for you.

That’s really interesting! I hadn’t considered the move to be a potential contributing factor, but I will now!

Yeah, sometimes the minor stress of the adjustment can throw them off. Other times some seem to do great.

But I also had a couple girls just reabsorb regardless. Never got to ovulation even though they did all the right motions and multiple locks
