ALERT: North Carolina native species - May 20, 2021

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has proposed changes to the State’s endangered, threatened, and special concern species lists. You can find the proposal and all information at https://www.ncwildlife.org/Proposed-Regulations (second item on the page with headline “15A NCAC 10I – Endangered, Threatened, and Special Concern Species”). There are three links (one for each list). Edits are easily viewable as either strikethrough or underlined text.

Changes include, but are not limited to, adding these three native reptile species to the special concern species list:

  • (G) EASTERN COACHWHIP (COLUBER (=MASTICOPHIS) FLAGELLUM FLAGELLUM);
  • (H) EASTERN SLENDER GLASS LIZARD (OPHISAURUS ATTENUATES LONGICAUDUS);
  • (J) NORTHERN MAP TURTLE (GRAPTEMYS GEOGRAPHICA);

Comment period: ends July 16, 2021

Proposed Effective Date: September 1, 2021
