I’m about to start selling my bugs for the first time and I went to the FedEx site to mock up a few shipments to get an idea of cost. The rates it’s giving me are…kind of insane? For reference, when I bought a couple of jumpers from a breeder a few months ago, they quoted me $35 for two-day shipping and $51 for overnight, from hub to hub. When I mocked up a shipment to the same place, FedEx quoted me $50 for 2 day and $108 for overnight, from hub to hub .
That can’t be right, right? Is there something I’m missing or not doing right?
Nope that’s about right.
Insects and animals can’t be shipped like general merchandise. They also can’t just be dropped off at any shipping location and need special labels as well. You need to ship through something like MorphMarket shipping, redline, ship your reptiles or reptiles2you
Depending on who you’re working with they may have a better discount from working with a particular shipping partner regularly for a long time and that can explain the discrepancy… but in general you’ll see that sort of pricing regularly for smaller critters. That or they just are charging a flat fee for shipping to keep it easier for their own records.
