I was going to make a topic asking some questions about this!
What’s the difference between Amelanstic and Albino? Especially in mammals vs reptiles.
From my understanding Amel is a lack of melanin. Albino is a lack of all pigment.
Since mammals have only melanin as a main pigment, albino and amel mammals would look the same, and basically mean the same thing.
Since reptiles have more than just melanin, Amel only removes melanin, and not the other pigments. Leaving a white/pink/red/orange/yellow reptile.
Albino theoretically removes all pigment, so it should leave a pure white reptile with red eyes. But it seems that Amel and Albino are commonly used to mean the same thing.
Leucistic is a partial or complete loss of any pigment. In mammals this means they could be pure white or faded out.
In reptiles it should be the same thing from my understanding, but most lucy reptiles are pure white sometimes grey patches.
Am I understanding this correctly? Or do I have it completely wrong somehow?
