Anybody working on projects with suma?

Hello! I have been absolutely obsessed with the super mahogany gene for a while now, ever since I got my first ball python a year or two ago (not a suma).

The thought of combining it with other genes to make all black ball pythons is something I’ve been really interested in and would love to own one once they become more affordable. Seeing what other cool things come out of suma is also a big interest of mine.

I’ve followed a few breeders on Facebook who are working with sumas to achieve some neat things with it including all black but I want to know of others working with them in projects so I can know when future clutches are born. Anyone here working with sumas that I can follow?

As a superfan of sumas myself, I’m also curious to see what others are working on. @gloomyboi have you seen the Abyss?

I have! I was following Circle City Constrictors on FB when their Suma GHI hatched and they continue to hatch out some really sick suma babies. Shame they’re retiring. :frowning:

100%! If I had lots of money I’d have pied abyss and abyss in my collection. And some insane freeway/highway combos too

I was originally planning on going for some Abyss+ type projects with my GHI Mahogany girl, who’s ~1000g now. But I’ve kind of lost interest in ball python breeding (too easy, no challenge ), so I might not bother and just let her stay a pet

Your girl is beautiful! I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum- not skilled nor knowledgeable with breeding, considering all 5 eggs from a surprise clutch didn’t make it. We never bred our girl, but apparently she retained sperm from a previous owner and never missed a meal with us, so we were thrown into the frying pan so to speak. And failed miserably. Too freaked out to ever attempt breeding

I’m sure your girl is glad to have you as her owner no matter what.

Could possibly have been a parthenogenic clutch and the eggs were genetically at risk to start with. You might actually have better results with a male and no guarantee she will not lay again without one.

Thank you, she’s a cutie and I absolutely adore her!

I am so sorry to hear about what happened with your girl, I agree there’s a solid chance it could have been a parthenogenesis and that you did nothing wrong, it was just doomed from the start. Sometimes with animals things just happen that are completely out of our control, even with great care and husbandry.
