Anyone have DIY Enclosure Tips?

Hi, I am going to be making my first DIY enclosure soon! I am planning on getting some sort of colubrid to live in it, but I am not sure what type yet. I have some general size ideas in mind. I also want to year your materials that you used, how you built one, etc. Thank you so much!

I’m not handy, so I can only say that I’d plan to incorporate some kind of sturdy, rigid, screen top so that heating and illumination lamps don’t need to be inside the enclosure.

I build my own 4x2x2’s using ply wood that I then line with contact paper up the wall @ 4in. Seal the corners with silicon. I use 1x2 for frames. Make sure there are no holes bigger than 1/4 inch or you may be looking for your snake. If you start with baby colubrids. Holes can be drilled for sensor cables and lights (if used). If I’m going to stack them I put a 2x4 spacer between them that goes around the perimeter with a cross support in the middle.
Climbing branches can be held in with closet rod supports or screwed in place through the walls. Use stainless hardware. Stumps fixed to the floor to prevent tip overs.
I use pvc vents pushed in from the inside and screwed so they can’t be knocked out.
I used j- channel, used for vinyl siding, for window tracks.

I looked at some plans by McCarthy boas and they were very detailed. I only ended up building one cage though because plywood cages are very heavy. It’s probably cheaper than buying one though so if you’re needing like 20 cages the savings might start to make sense. If you need like one 4x2x1 cage, I think i’d just buy it.
