Arctic? Xtreme?

Hi! So a while ago I purchased a male hognose, he was sold to me as an “xtreme hognose line het albino”. I’m unsure of what xtreme hognose line could mean as he doesn’t really appear as a red or purple line, in fact I’d say his colors are pretty muted. Furthermore he resembles, at least in my opinion, an arctic? I have no info on genetics as he was a rehoming situation.

Any ideas on what his deal is?

The only “extreme” anything I’m aware of is red, and that’s line bred polygenic. As for arctic, it’s possible, but I don’t work with it or have enough experience to say whether it is or isn’t. @ghsaltie or @ballornothing may be able to offer more insight.

Cute little guy! I don’t see any signs of Arctic, but I’m also not the greatest at seeing Arctic in its single form. Just comparing him to some that I have I don’t see it.
Since he is het Albino my guess is that he is from “extreme red” albino lines. Which simply means they show a higher saturation than your typical orange or yellow albino. It is a polygenic line bred trait. In a normal that would look like reddish or mahogany colored saddles. Unfortunately most lines have become diluted to the point where the term no longer applies.

I see! That makes a lot of sense, I’d bet that’s probably it- thanks heaps!

I agree with the others. That appears to be a wild type and based on the muted color I would guess the albino is Extreme Red. That varies a lot in albinos though. Huge range of color in the extreme/purple/color blast/pastel stuff.
