Are most fat tailed geckos smart enough to move to the warmer area of the tank if they need to?

I rearranged the tank creating some more privacy for him (i’ll probably never see him again, he’s in there now, he’s obsessed with this hide) and it’s pretty cool on that side around 60-62 and the middle where he was hanging before is around 72.

Will he go warm up if he needs to or will he just stay in the hide and go into brumation?

Does he have a hide on the warm end? Generally reptiles are good at thermoregulating so long as they’re given the means to do so. Some reptiles will choose to stay hidden rather than maintain optimal body temperature, which is why it’s important for them to have good places to hide in various spots along the temperature gradient.

I’m not an AFT person, so I may be off base here, but 60-62 sounds pretty chilly for most reptiles.

Believe me he is stubborn as hell. I hardly ever see him on the warm side. I guess he prefers it cold.

He also, unsurprisingly, prefers to not see humans, at all.

Brumation behaviors began as soon as the weather changed outside. They can take 60-62. I do see him warming up once he wakes up.

Still eating however.

I may have to turn on the ceramic heater during the day too… my place is really cold. maybe it is too chilly.

Im making it warmer for him
