Im new to snakes and I don’t know much. I’m looking for a ball python breeder that is willing to ship them to me but I am open for tips on handling a bp and the best types of enclosures I should keep for it.
There’s many breeders who will ship if you look on the Morphmarket sales pages. You can also look up local listings too if you decide to check closer. If for some reason you are in an area where ball pythons are illegal to own, that’s a different situation and then obviously the breeders would not sell the snake.
Handling will really depend on the personality of the snake. Some are more shy, some are more defensive. Regardless, when you first get your snake, you would want to give them at least a week without handling to let them settle in and then attempt to feed them. You want to avoid handling until they eat, and even if they are eating you want to avoid handling too much until they are eating regularly.
If this is your first reptile, this post is a pretty good list of everything you would need to look at for ball python care.
We cannot give you a specific breeder as it is against Community Guidelines but theres a lot to choose from on Morphmarket that will ship to you.
As far as handling goes Ball Pythons tend to be some of the most docile snakes I’ve personally worked with, but it does depend on the individual snake. Otherwise its pretty simple to handle them as they remain relatively calm.
You’ll need a minimum of a 40gal (36" x 18" x 18") enclosure to house an adult Ball Python unless you keep them in a snake rack.
Thank you I printed this document out and reading it right now it gives a lot of pointers about the tanks and things to look for on my snake thank you very much
Also, when choosing a ball python, it’s perfectly fine, and encouraged, to ask any questions to the breeder. Smaller businesses are usually more in-tune with the temperament of their snakes, which could be helpful to know. Make sure you are aware of whether the snake eats live, frozen thawed, etc. That way you can make sure there is a store readily available to sell you feeders. There are options online to order frozen thawed but not live rodents.
