The breeder said I could house them together since it was a male and female, but I was worried about that too.
Yeah I have no idea what could have happened?! I only had him for 11 days when he passed.
OMG! Having male and female geckos together will result in breeding too young and given the size difference, I donāt think they shouldāve been kept together.
Going by the pictures, both Geckos looked healthy when you received it. If u have breeder details, it might be worth sharing still.
A lot can go wrong in 11 days!
There is a chance of something serious, however given only 1 Gecko was affected itās a high chance it might be due to bullying, trying to breed too young or something in the enclosure (or all 3).
I have seen bullying in Geckos and agree it doesnāt usually cause anything serious.
But Iāve seen stressed out geckos hurt themselves as they not happy (but never on armpits). Which may be a result of bullying.
No!!
They canāt breed until females are over 18 months and 45g for one. So really stupid for breeder to tell you that!
I donāt think death is anything to do with armpit Iāll be honest.
A girl here of mine had a gash on her back couple months ago, all healed nicely now. No idea what she did at all but sheās perfectly ok now. (Sheās not a breeder as has issues)
I wasnāt trying to breed. I told the breeder I only wanted one because my research was saying that you couldnāt house them together. But the breeder convinced me that I could house them together if I got them at a young age.
I should have known better but was naĆÆve and trusted the breeder.
Trust me I feel awful and havenāt stopped crying. Little foot was my baby and let him down.
I messaged the breeder and he refused any wrong doing. He only offered a small discount on another gecko.
Most the time people will never admit doing anything wrong.
I know this is upsetting for you. But you learn and your trying your best!
Itās hard when losing a pet. But try not to beat yourself up too much! U still have 1 pet left to take care of and if u need anything, were here to help!
Its also disappointing that they think they can just get you to buy another
It could just be the lighting but in the first picture it looks like they might have been a bit skinny? if it was being housed with the larger juvenile it may have succumbed due to multiple factorsā¦ new environment, injury, stress, & getting bullied off of food?
Small geckos might not be able to damage a person much but they can definitely put the hurt on each other
Iām sorry you got a bad egg of a breeder, I hope it doesnāt discourage you from the hobby. This forum is a great resource if you decide to stick around.
@jedwards1428 You have got to quit beating yourself up for something you didnāt do on purpose. This is just mho but the breeder obviously wanted to make a double sale and therefore talked you into it by giving you really bad advice. Also there may have been something wrong with Little Foot at the time of sale that the breeder may or may not have known.
At the end of the day, as @foxreptile said, you still have one little gecko babe to take care of, nurture and love. The loss of Little Foot is a hurt that will heal in time. But it will surely heal.
You have a huge support group here as well.
