I would just keep an eye on it for now, if it gets worse, there’s any sign of infection, or it doesn’t seem to get any better within a few weeks, i would take him to the vet just in case.
Just like any other living being they can get injuries sometimes, accidents happen, if you don’t see it happen it can be difficult to tell exactly why. But they typically heal just fine on their own
He’s super pretty btw
@jedwards1428 Hello Jessica! First off welcome to the family community! We are definitely a family here!
If both armpits are affected, imho, he could have been climbing around on something pointed like a thick succulent or cactus or something along that nature. As @foxreptile suggested, he needs to be quarantined in something very clean and easy to clean. In the picture I believe so can see a small open wound. Keep an eye on it for swelling or increased redness etc. If infection presents itself then you will need an antibiotic from your vet…….
So sorry to hear he/she didn’t make it. That’s always tough. Did you get it from a pet store or from a breeder? Did you notice any issues when you got them home?
I am so sorry for your loss, I just saw this and honestly, I’d like to offer an opinion here. To me, that red/raw wound doesn’t look fresh, it looks like an infection that had been previously undetected. The way it looks very milky pink and watery doesn’t seem right for a fresh injury. I will tag @mblaney who has more wound experience than myself.
The #1 thing to do is to get a necropsy. Do not freeze his body, keep him in the fridge and take him to a reptile vet within the next 24h. If you don’t, you’ll never know what happened and may make the same mistakes again, if there were any mistakes made.
I’m not comfortable speculating on something like this with so little info and no way to examine his remains in person. My condolrnces, @jedwards1428
I got him from a breeder at an expo on the 8th. He was small and not as active as the other one I got from the same breeder. He was also not growing like the other one.
Thank you I appreciate it! I would examine them everyday and didn’t notice anything up until I took that picture. He wasn’t as active as my other one I got at the same time.
I’m by no means a crestie expert, but were you by chance housing them together?
I ask, because now that I see there’s another gecko in the picture, I’m wondering if they weren’t getting along and fighting, which lead to his damage.
I thought I’d heard of these geckos bullying and killing each other. It isn’t common in other species that’s why I was asking about cohabiting. Especially if it’s 2 males I’d imagine.
