These are my first babies from a red stripe pairing. I cannot find photos of young red stripes and wanted a few opinions, or if someone had a picture of a red stripe. I feel one or both of these may be, but I’m not positive about their variation, and wanted some second opinions if anyone can give them.
Pairing was a Mandarin Het Tremper pos giant X Manadrin Red Stripe Tremper Inferno
Red stripe (Inferno and Mandarin as well) isn’t a gene like snow or albino that can be guaranteed to pass to a % of offspring. Red stripe is polygenic / line bred trait like tangerine lines or black night lines.
You cannot always say which animal is going to display the colors you’re looking for. These both are technically just mandarin het tremper from red stripe inferno lineage hatchlings. You are outcrossing the line bred trait and that can dilute the polygenic traits
You’re going to need to wait for the babies to grow up and develop a bit of color to really see how much they may have inherited. They both have inherited the aberrant stripe pattern. Color is going to take more time. They might not be as bright as the Mandarin Red Stripe Inferno because you diluted the Red Stripe Inferno line.
Okay, thank you! I knew they were all polygenic/line-bred, and it was not 100%. The one with no back pattern at the moment was the one I was leaning towards being red stripe, but I cannot seem to find any photos of any 100% red stripe babies to compare to. I have several bold stripes and reverse, and I know they can hatch with the aberrant stripes, but I was curious about opinions on the red stripe, as I’m learning the early signs for that.

An update on these two gorgeous babies. They got a photo inside the photo box to show the colors better, but we have brightened up so much already!
Oh wow they’re looking great! Gorgeous little Mandarins for sure. Leftie is getting some of that bordering on the purple that will hopefully become more red over time.
If you are looking to improve just overall color the one on the right should be beautiful as they age. But if the goal is to keep trying to increase the red stripe then the left should help. Red Stripe seems to use the color changes over time to bring out those reds, so a super hypo like the rt may not help as much.
