So after letting this project sit for a few months I’m finally getting back at it. I’ve gotten a lot of the background done but there’s still a lot to cover too.
Going at the rate I am, I’m hoping to see this enclosure stocked with plants by the end of this week or early next week. Going to let the water feature run and establish and do a few water changes and tests over the course of a couple weeks before adding aquatic plants and some variant of micro shrimp, still debating what kind.
I’m going to be moving my Mourning Gecko colony into this enclosure and possibly get some Dart Frogs to cohab them with- again another thing thats still up in the air.
Otherwise I feel pretty happy with the direction this is going. There were a few bumps here and there were I really just wanted to trash the project but I pulled through and here it is now!
I made a 3D printed encasement thats hidden on the right behind the background that holds filters, bio media, tubing and then the mini pump ( I forgot what the brand is). But at the top right where the waterfall starts theres a section where I can lift and remove the top to access the whole encasement, filter and pump. The pump sits at the bottom right where the water intake is (behind the cave on the bottom right). The “pond” has screen seperating it and the water intake, where the pump takes the water via the tubing to the filter and bio media and up through the waterfall.
The water feature was all a really complicated process for me to make right with using 3D printed materials and it took several deconstructions and rebuilding. Its my first time ever making a water feature from scratch so there was a lot of learning along the way. The whole water feature holds I believe 5 gallons of water max, but I’ve only ever filled it up to 3 gallons while doing test runs of the waterfall so it cannot hold any fish despite my hopes for some, I will have to see if there are any micro shrimp species that will do ok in a limited space like that but I’m doubtful.
There is a lot to this enclosure that the picture doesn’t show, theres cave areas on both the left and right sides of the enclosure. Theres an area in the middle that leads behind the waterfall, just a lot of crevices that will allow for ample hiding space. I honestly cannot wait to see the Mourning Geckos exploring this enclosure.
