my bp pair last locked 8/20, i try to put them together to lock again but they like completely lost interest in each other? does this mean she’ll ovulate soon? ive been putting them together every month since august but nothing lol she’ll wag her tail for a little but then go on one side of the tub n then he’ll be on the other side and they wont move until i take him out. i leave him in with her for about 2-3 days. they 100% locked 3 times back in august so i am hoping she’ll ovulate soon and give me a clutch but everywhere i read or if i ask the local breeder, everyone is telling me to keep pairing them until she ovulates. i havent seen her ovulate yet. any advice/tips?

Keep pairing once a month until you see ovulation. Ovulation lasts maybe 24 hours. So if you check your female twice a day you probably will not miss it. If you miss ovulation, keep pairing until she lays, can’t hurt.

There are several ideas I’ve seen thrown around. I don’t know if there is any science behind these or if they are just old wives’ tales, but they seem harmless enough if they don’t actually help induce a lock.
- Pair when it’s stormy or raining outside.
- Mist the female’s enclosure before pairing.
- Wipe the sperm plug goo of a male down the back of the female before pairing. I don’t think it has to be the sperm plug of the male you intend to pair.
- Put a freshly shed skin of a male in with the female before pairing. I don’t think it has to be the shed skin of the male you intend to pair.
- Put a different male in with the female for a few minutes to get the female “hot-to-trot” before pairing. Don’t not leave this male in there long enough for him to actually lock. Then pull him out and put the actual male in there you want to pair. How long is long enough? Who knows.
