Hello, i have a female ball python that ovulated and had prelay shed well over 2.5 months ago…shes consistantly refused food and i can feel the eggs in her still (about 3 i think i felt)…has anyone had this happen?
I’ve had a corn snake who once layed half her clutch but couldn’t lay the rest. You could try putting her in some water and giving her a controlled swim. This might help move those eggs along and the swimming could also trigger contractions which could get her to lay those eggs. Hopefully everything goes well for you and those eggs finally get out of her.
Can you post pictures of her? What is her behavior like? What are the exact dates of her ovulation and when you recorded her pre-lay shed?
She looks like shes lost weight, shes uninterested in food and she sits in a coil 90% of the time…and im mad at myself cause i swore up and down i recorded her prelay shed date but i cant find it anywhere, i just know her last shed was over 2 months ago right after she got really big (im new to breeding and am still not 100% what an ovulation looks like)
How old is she and what was her weight before?
Is it possible to get someone to help you get a photo of her from the side and holding her up so we can see how the eggs are sitting as well?
When did she stop eating? It’s not 100%, some girls will eat past ovulation, but most will stop eating beforehand.
Females when they’re getting ready to ovulate may put on a lot of weight in a short period. So that can sometimes confuse owners.
Ovulation usually looks like they ate a huge meal even though they hadn’t. Just before laying females will also begin to have more visible ribs from the eggs being nearly ready to lay. Most females will follow the ovulation and then shed pattern, but not all females will.
Honestly if you pretty sure the timing is correct and she’s starting to drastically loose weight I would just bring her to a vet.
I second taking her to a vet if you’re not sure. The vet could do an ultrasound to confirm whether she has eggs or not and evaluate if she’s seeming like she’s past the due date. I had a female who decided to just retain eggs and never lay them, and had to have surgery - but generally this isn’t the case and they can just throw you for a loop with timing.
