Hi everyone!
Hoping anyone can help as I’m having terrible luck getting help from either Reddit or the Facebook groups that I’m in. I currently have a female ball python and I want to upgrade her enclosure to a 4x2x2 or maybe slightly bigger but I would like to know what cages you recommend and the material list from heating, lighting. I have two Dubia enclosure side my corn snakes but want something that requires minimal adjustments to it. I’ll attach the enclosure as the items that I was planning to go with but wanted to see if the list is good or if I should add or get rid of stuff.
Lots of opinions on what is best, but I would personally recommend halogens/incandescent bulbs over heat-panels, or at least alongside them, since IRA and IRB heats better and more in depth than IRC. Heat panels and CHEs and the like are better for nighttime-heating (if needed) or raising the overall temp.
Just my .02, but I’ll share my Dubia enclosure setup. I have two Dubias. I use a 100 w dhp on an Exoterra dimming thermostat, and an Arcadia Jungle Dawn 22w led bar on a 12 hour timer, for my live plants. Temps are right where they need to be. The thermostat is a bit pricey at around $120, but worth the peace of mind, and it keeps the temp within a degree. That’s all I use. I mist the enclosure twice a day, to boost humidity, and during shed, I keep the hide area damp to kick up the humidity. Last shed was a perfect one piece shed. Of course, I had to silicone the bottom and little bit up the sides, but that’s the only real adjustment I had to make. I also put a little hvac tape on the screen to maintain a little better humidity, as well. For the price, I think Dubia makes pretty good enclosures.
Thank you! I definitely love my Dubias for my corns. What size do you have? I have two of the 5 foot ones for my corns and felt that was extremely big for them but for my ball python I’m not sure if it’s okay to keep them in a 4x2x2.
I’m a fan of Animal Plastics. I feel like they’ve got some of the best prices for the level of quality, with great custom options. I’ve been using one for my blood python for the last 3 or so years, and I liked it so much that I ordered a bigger one for my boa.
Only bad thing I can say about them is that their lead times tend to be pretty long. I ordered this most recent enclosure a couple months ago and it just shipped today. So if you need an enclosure quickly, AP is not the best choice. But if you can wait a bit, they’re fantastic enclosures for a great price.
PS: 4’x2’ is plenty of space for a ball python.
