Ball python genetic help/confirmation!

Hi, I’m looking for help to identify/clarify the genetics of my newly purchased ball python. Unfortunately this boy came with no documentation on its sire/dam so I’ve been left thinking what genetics he may contain. I’ll put a few pictures below, any help with ID would be great!! Thanks

I believe he is a banana sugar pos enchi or even pastel??

It’s sometimes difficult to say with banana because you loose some of the shades and definition to tell certain genes apart…
I would say banana enchi sugar does look pretty close though. It was my first thought at the photos before reading your post so no bias for that guess. Hahah.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I think I’m going to mark him down as that for now. Will hopefully prove him out next year. Any ideas on what would be best to pair with him to find out his genetics?

That looks very much like a Banana Enchi Sugar to me. Idk about Pastel, he does have light eyes though.

Banana enchi sugar does look correct to me, and I would say yes to pastel as well. His head is faded a little where I would expect a pastel headstamp to be and his dorsal is pretty yellow, which in banana often indicates pastel.

Thanks for your input! I’m now more confident he definitely is Banana Enchi Sugar. Pastel would just be a bonus gene if he is

I was thinking the same about the headstamp! But i wasnt too sure on how pastel reacts with banana. If you were to label him would you confidently say Banana Enchi Sugar Pastel?

That’s a nice-looking snake!

Any suggestions on what i should pair with him? I’m currently working on a clown pied project, but could do with a second project focusing on Banana combos.

I’m a keeper so I’ll just chime in for fun…

I used the Morphmarket site morph calculator to see what morphs I thought would look neat as offspring of your snake that I hadn’t really seen advertised for sale much with banana sugar enchi. There are, I think, either 8 or 16 different offspring morphs possible from pairing your male with even just one single gene female. 1 in 16 odds with a female with either an incomplete dominant or dominant gene, while a single gene recessive female gives you 1 in 8 odds of hitting any possible morph/combo. Experts please lmk if any of the information is incorrect. Unfortunately, I have never been able to wrap my head around genetics but I keep trying because it’s fascinating

Anway, Confusion, Stranger, Black Head and Spotnose (purely my opinion) would give a neat result with banana or any combination of your snake’s morphs. I do advise that you scroll through the ball pythons for sale on Morphmarket.com if you haven’t already. You can play around with the filters to figure out some morphs or combos that you really, REALLY love.

It’s important to work with morphs that you absolutely love. My first love was Pied, and I’ve also added Freeway, Stranger, Suma and Banana to my shortlist! I really like numerous other morphs but only “keep” morphs i love (except for 4 rescues I have who are gorgeousin their own right).

Pied Clowns sound like a neat project, can’t wait to see how they turn out!

In case you haven’t played around with the morph calculator, the link is below.

Sorry for the rambling and disjointed reply. ADHD sends me off on tangents or just completely off the rails sometimes

I’ve been filtering through some different combos on Morphmarket myself as well. Being from the UK I’ve noticed that there’s really not many combos at all close to my males genetics! :raised_hands: which makes me more excited to take on a new project!

You’re not the only one who struggles with genetics and probabilities of offspring

All good suggestions! Especially spotnose, as I could develop the 2nd Banana project into Banana Batman combos at a later date. Theres really not much to see when using the morph calculator on the UK setting, so I’ll see what pops up with all regions

I’m currently in the early stages of the Clown Pied project and want to make my own double hets or visual and het as I feel its more authentic even though it adds years on to any end results

No need to apologise! I’m pretty sure everyone here and especially myself could talk about this for hours!
