So im waiting for the vet to get back ahold of me again for my albino ball woke up this morning and there was a sh**storm sorry but ya called the vet and am waiting for his answer if he needs a sample from said storm before i clean it up or if he needs to come in and now im just waiting and worrying this was the 1st bad bm for him and just want some opinions and if im overreacting to since this was the only time its happened the ac had gone down and the last few days it has been hot could that have just fast tracked his digestive system and stressed him since he was already on paper towel bedding to treat a small infection (that has cleared up btw) i was just about to put his bedding back in tonight when i woke up to this he eats weekly ~13 gram rats and last weeks he had “popped” it when he ate could that have been a factor in this to i warm mine in hot water from frozen for feedings sorry again for this i hate the waiting game with no answers
Tip from a former vet tech: If it’s still moist I would collect a sample in a ziplock baggie and pop it in the fridge regardless until you hear back from the office. If it’s dried it usually isn’t as helpful.
Did the doctor give him an antibiotic injection when he went in for the scrape? I know you said you were doing wipes at home.
If they have given him an injection that could be the reason for the stools. BeneBac is a good probiotic to use for cases like that.
Otherwise, the temps could be a factor for sure. I’ve seen a few noodles do that in the past. It’s usually my younger babies though who aren’t eating fully developed rodents. But as a precaution, I would still get a sample tested just in case.
No they just gave me the wipes as it was really really small and was caught early enough ill do that and also in the meantime should i seperate him from everyone in a completely new room i just moved the tank that was next to him last week and the next tank is a tables lengths away the rats he eats dont even have fur at all yet also forgot to add i had thought getting a snake from a expo was a safe option (been here since march) and had her next to him others said it was still to close she should have been in a completely different room and now im overthinking that she still seems healthy as a horse and so does my other snake its just little flame thats having problems
Vet got back to me they r going to run the fecal and said the results should be here tomorrow heres to hoping that its just a heat thing now to give a snake a bath just saw how dirty his underside still is
Reptiles purchased at expos should most definitely be quarantined. If anything, I’d say that a good quarantine period (at least 90 days, many do longer) is extra important for an animal purchased at an expo, just because of the number of animals of unknown origin that are at expos. Even if the breeder you purchased from has healthy animals and good practices, that breeder has no control over the animals and practices of the vendor set up next to them, and pathogens can travel. I don’t say this to scare you, but just so you know for future reference.
If I were you, I would put the snake with diarrhea in a separate room from my other reptiles, just to be safe.
Hopefully you’ll get some answers when you get the results of the fecal test, and hopefully this is just a function of the snake’s digestion getting wonky due to an increase in temperature.
Ya thats what they were saying in the other thread to i had assumed all animals had to be vetted but they said thats not the case im just hoping my mistake didnt cause the problem and its just due to the heat nobody had shown anything up until today and thats what i thought thanks for conferming i should move him away even farther im glad that it happened while on the paper towels though so i noticed it right away
Oh as referance to the whole house has been hanging around the high 80s the last few days for the majority of the day then cools off quite a bit at night back into the 70s so everyones been hanging around their cool side and ive been misting a lot to try to cool it down and keep their humidity a little more stable
That’s a bit odd. Usually a fecal specimen can be analyzed under a microscope within a few minutes at the clinic. Or that’s the way it was when I worked at a vet clinic……
They send all or theirs out for this clinic instead of doing them there
Depends on what they’re looking for.
Reptile parasites can be a bit hard to spot or may require a different technique.
They sent it as a comprehensive test there was a higher option as well but that cost 300 to do and was in flordiaso it was a middle ground besides bare minnimum as well
Update from the vet fecal came back clean so leaning toward the heat if it doesnt get better they need to see him again this morning was just a small watery 1 not so its improved from yesterday should i still feed normal tonight or should i wait until tomorrow ganna keep him in the other room though until i know for sure
Update still no repeat after the 2 episodes and he ate again since must have been a glitch in the matrix because he couldnt go to a cool side and hes smaller than the others so it affected him more
