Ball python injured herself

My girl managed to somehow scab her own head. It’s been about a week and her behavior didn’t change, the wound looks like It’s slowly healing. Should I consult a vet or do anything else to her? Her tank is huge and full of enrichment, should I move her into a quarantine until it heals?

Its not a severe enough wound to really warrant quarantine or removal from her enclosure.

I’d just continue to keep an eye on its healing progress, maybe get some diluted betadine (1:10 parts betadine:water) and use a q-tip to apply a small amount to the wound once a day just to keep it clean.

I also don’t think it warrants a vet visit unless you notice its healing has ceased, it has started to swell, or ooze or turn red and spread. Just basically anything that would resemble an infection that would require antibiotics, but if you do a daily betadine cleaning it should significantly reduce that risk.

I’d also just keep an eye on her behavior, watch her and see if you notice her rubbing her head on anything or if she finds a sharp surface that could have caused the wound and remove it.

Does she eat live or f/t prey btw?

I just found a few dots of scale rot under her head:,) Will move her to quarantine and visit a vet just in case. She eats f/t.

Welp at least you’ll be able to have both areas checked on at the vet anyway

Since she does have a large enclosure full of enrichment items as you’ve said I’d definitely just go ahead and check around it and look for any harsh abrasive surfaces she could have scratched herself on as well as any areas like around her water bowl or under hides that might be too damp.

The small area of scale rot you shared a photo of doesn’t concern me a ton but since she already does have a wound it is better to be safe than sorry

Thank you:pray: appreciate the reassurance, she had me stressing already. I’ll fix her tank to a more safe environment, the humidity issue too. Should that be enough or do you think she’ll need any other treatment?

The vet will be able to cover any other specific concerns I’m sure

Just keep an eye on her, keep her clean and I’m sure she’ll be fine with treatment.

I was holding on to one for someone for a couple of months and she managed to stuff herself behind a hide, crack it, and cut her head and neck on the edge. She had a scab about three times that size on her head and one lower down on her neck as well. I just kept her on paper towels, dabbed antibiotic ointment on it every 3-4 days, and the owner just sent me a picture and it was darn near gone after her most recent shed. They’re good at healing! Agree with cmsreptiles, just make sure she’s kept clean and calm.

Just to check… Does she eat live or frozen thaw?

If the first photo is how she looks now then vet is definitely best. It does look more swollen than the other 2 photos.
If it’s from when you first noticed it and the others are current, it looks like it is on the right track.
