I just rescued this ball python and I’m wondering what kind of morph she is! I don’t know her sex for sure, by the way, or her age or honestly anything about her. I think she’s a banana morph?
Looks like a banana to me.
If they’re over 4 years old the odds are in favor of being male. Female bananas were much less common then. But still a chance =)
I find that interesting. I’m assuming this is because the gene responsible for the Banana morph is sex linked?
Yup!
My first coral glow gal (also Mojave fire het Hypo) is a 2019 and I remember being so happy to find her price under 1k.
A 2020 banana het pied I picked up later had been purchased for $500 before I got her.
Obviously, once everyone figured out the trick to it things were a lot easier to get more females. I held back 2 hypo females from my first gal (amazing odds). And I have a female maker banana pied from that second gal.
That’s so interesting! I have no idea my snake’s age since she (or he!) is a rescue from a place that didn’t have great records…She’s about 3-4 feet long but I know that’s not a great way to estimate age, plus she was housed in a very inadequate enclosure so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a little stunted.
If you’re really curious you can check out RGI shed testing to find out the sex. You just purchase a test and when they shed you can send a piece in to see.
But I know it’s sometimes not a huge deal. I had an iguana just named Sam’ because we never knew the sex as a kid. Hahah. Eventually they were fully named Samantha
