Bantam Corns: Possible New Mutation

5 lbs! If he keeps it down, he’ll have some good growth. 1400g maybe.

Every time I see Chispa, I’m struck by her very high contrast. She’s got much more of a Candy Cane look than a lot who are formally tagged that way.

Miami phase heritage and the Cinder het scrub her ground ciean. I expect even her neck to be clean at some point. She also has more pattern regularity than any SKs I’ve hatched from that family and I think it makes her look even cleaner.

She ate her first Medium Adult mouse earlier

Ditto this sentiment. The sharp contrast between bright red and stark white is so stunning.

She’s really, really pretty, regardless of her width and general chonkiness.

First homo Bantam intentionally hatched by someone other than me. From a 66%ph Bantam pair of ‘23s I sent out. I’m in close contact with the breeders, so I’ll have more info soon.

But explain “homo” Bantam to me but like I’m 5 years old!

Homozygous for Bantam. Bantam is recessive, so a baby needs a mutant Bantam gene from each parent, two copies total, to express Bantam

In this case, the parents are both normal body type corns HETEROZYGOUS for Bantam. Like the original Bantam pair.

So is this baby a full on Bantam?

It is. And high expression too.

This marks a huge milestone for you and this project, Dean. So fun to see things coming full circle. It must feel so awesome to watch things catch on in the broader hobby after the work you did to prove it as a safe and healthy morph.

It does feel pretty good. It’s also nice to have more data to back up the recessive conclusion.
