Kyrre is just so…
Yes I agree she is beautiful! I love her head markings Christina!
@cmsreptiles Are able to handle her? Those types of boas always intimidate me because it seems they are staring right at you!
Lets just say we are working at it lol… Definitely not a handleable species if you are opposed to getting painful bites. Right now the bites aren’t that bad but they can get over 5ft in length and I can’t imagine their teeth stay small forever.
Right now I’m still working with handling at least once a week, but a majority of my effort is being put into hook training and just being around the snake’s terrarium so he/she will get used to my presence. Every handling with this snake comes with 2-4 bites, some are very random with no warning signs. The good thing is that this species doesn’t heavy-bodied at all so they don’t really pack a punch with the bite, its just the teeth length thats the issue. At least its nothing like my other Boa’s (7ft Boa Constrictor) bites
A suggestion. Try opening the viv and holding a stick for her to crawl onto. I’m also wary of those bird grabber teeth. The most I have ever got was a peck. Then the exploring starts. I can touch mine but she scoots back to her viv if I get too touchy. She’s @ 5 ft and 3 yrs old.
I let mine crawl onto the snake hook but the second Kyrre senses the heat of my skin I get tagged. I have read they do calm down with age, mine is only a yearling. Kyrre is also very reactive to any movement, even me talking to others will trigger a strike, this is why I’m spending time just being around the enclosure to get Kyrre used to my presence.
Breeder said that Kyrre is handleable but will let me know when he/she is done soo idk. Its a short learning curve from working with the other snakes I own lol
Wow! My white lipped pythons are like that. I’m holding one and it suddenly realizes that the “tree” is alive! Then things get perforated. Haha!
My atb, on the other hand, when reaching my hand or arm, will either peck me or retreat back to her home. Usually retreat. Unless it’s been awhile since food. Then the pecking. Sometimes a very slow, thorough inspection. If it’s food night, for anybody, I don’t tempt fate, at all.
Time will change that for both of us. After 40ish years, I’ve never had any snake that didn’t calm down. Even hot stuff does, eventually.
