Best pet Lizard

Hey there,

I’m currently trying to decide on the best pet lizard for me, and I’m a bit torn between a blue tongue skink, a bearded dragon, or an Ackie monitor. I’m looking for something that stays around a manageable size, is interactive, and is also fun to watch in its enclosure.

If you have any other suggestions or personal favorites, I’d really appreciate your input! Out of those three, which would you recommend?

Personally as a Beardie owner I’d go for that or a Rankins Dragon (they are very similar).

Their care maintenance is pretty straightforward, they have a varied diet of greens and insects though they can be picky on the greens. They have awesome personalities and they bond really well, males being more energetic and females being more affectionate.

Of course I’d reccomend doing in depth research with any animal you plan to own and there is a lot of Beardie care info I can’t put in one comment.

With Ackie monitors they require tons of space to live comfortably, and they may not make as good of a bond as Beardies, they tend to be much more flightly and high strung.

As far as Blue Tounges go I don’t have any experience at all with them so I can’t really say anything on them. From what I’ve seen briefly they tend to be somewhat reclusive and mellow.

I had a rescued beardie for awhile but unfortunately he was blind. I know that the 3 you mentioned are on the larger size but I have a false chameleon anole that is small in size but huge in personality. He is easy to car for and his enclosure doesn’t take up much room. He would ride around on my shirt all day if I let him but he needs his uvb and for a few hours a day!
