He is tired on the giant pool water thing …he was like…Ill just scoop poop & drain the tub…tadoo…turning where the toilet was into a fountain eventually…cool idea…give him that
I hate that story. I’ve heard from multiple people as if it were fact. Like their mom told them a personal story lol.
First time I heard it I was like “… Well that’s… Not how you should take care of a boa constrictor…” Lol
That makes sense haha
22yrs ago… I had an Iguana that free roamed…dont recommend doing that …btw
All the usuals, it could eat you, is it poisonous, do they bite, and the story of their uncle’s sister’s friend who owns a boa constrictor that was sizing them up to eat them. (I hate that story)
But the strangest by far is one time in high school my friend, completely serious, asked “do snakes drink milk??” And I’m so glad it was a friend because I couldn’t stop laughing lol. That was a fun conversation to explain that no, they don’t in fact drink milk
Come on every body knows milk snakes, drink milk. They sneak right up to the cows and latch on to their utters! Also they can bite their own tails turn into a wheel and go down a hill that way. That’s is if there paralyzing gaze doesn’t get you first!
My mom has struggled to grasp the fact that not all species of boa get to be huge like an anaconda or BC. I have a KSB, and I’ve had to reassure her at least half a dozen times that Phoebe will not exceed 3 feet in length. I’ve had more or less this conversation with her many times:
Mom: Remind me again what species of snakes you have.
Me: Phoebe is a Kenyan sand boa and Mina is a blood python.
Mom: OMG a boa?!?!? How big is she, those get huge!!
Me: Mom, you’ve met Phoebe. She’s small, and she’s over 10 years old, so she’s as big as she’s going to get.
Mom: But boas get huge!
Me: There are many species of boa, and many boa species are actually quite small. Phoebe is a sand boa, not a boa constrictor, sand boas stay small.
Funny how the one she’s so concerned about is actually the smallest of my snakes.
I also get people asking me all the time if my snakes are “poisonous.” Once I had someone try to tell me that ALL snakes are “poisonous.” I calmly explained the difference between “poisonous” and “venomous,” then tried to tell her that she must be thinking of spiders, because there are many species of non-venomous snakes. She refused to believe me, and said she hoped for my sake that I never got bit and had to find out the hard way that I was wrong. I told her that I had already been bitten by non-venomous snakes more than once and had no reaction to their non-existent venom…and she still refused to believe me.
A similar thing happened to me. I once was stupid enough to go on a walk while holding my BP, and someone asked me what snake it was, so I told him it was a ball python, so he told me oh my god pythons are “poisonous” so I said no, they are not venomous, trust me I’ve been bitten before and he was just like liar pythons are highly venomous and when he eventually goes on a rampage and bites you you’re gonna wish you listened to me. So many things are so blatantly wrong about this statement that I don’t even feels like I have to tell y’all which parts are wrong…but I will, it’s all of it.
Some people are shockingly dedicated to their own ignorance. I’ll never understand it.
Couple weeks ago I had a dozen or so different species with me at my work (pet store) for a public outreach day.
One girl was absolutely into it but her mother was appalled.
Mother: “How many innocent mice do you have to feed that thing?”
Me: “Mice? None. She was born eating rats, and currently eats a single 5lb rabbit every 2 weeks.”
Mother: “Oh god, are they at least dehaired?”
I explained that they need the fur to hold their feces together, and that there is no reason to shave an animal when they eat the whole item in nature, but I still dont understand what she was going for with that question.
I also have to tell people that snakes aren’t poisonous and that all snakes aren’t venomous.
That’s priceless!!
The wife and I do animal classes with our reptiles and others, and she always starts out with something like this.
I’ll just answer a few questions first. Yes my animals bite. All animals bite. No, I won’t let them bite you. I don’t know where you have been and don’t want my animals getting sick.
Today I was playing “Catch Phrase”, the word was ‘King Cobra’. The person who got the word said, “Its venom kills you in 15 minutes.” I don’t think that’s accurate, I thought it was more like several hours for a King cobra (correct me if I’m wrong) AND THEN peoples guesses were (quietly chokes*)
PYTHON! CORN SNAKE! AND FREAKIN BALL PYTHON!!!
Am done with life
People are always so horrified at the notion of feeding rodents (even dead ones) to snakes, but…what precisely do they think is in the food they feed their dogs and cats, carrots and parsley? I sincerely doubt most of these horrified people are vegetarian or vegan, so where do they think their own meat dinners come from?
(Funny thing is, I actually am vegan, because as a human and an omnivore, that’s a choice I can make, but I accept and respect that my carvinorous pets can’t make that choice and need to eat other animals to survive. Not sure why meat-eating humans seem to have such a problem with it.)
That’s awesome.
Let me commend you on being a great pet parent and knowing the difference between a personal life choice and the health of your pets.
I’m personally not a vegan, but I’ve told people in the past, “I can’t be mad at my [insert animal] eating [insert meat] because I eat chicken nuggets and burgers.” That usually gets a couple blinks and then a “oh … Yeah I guess that’s true.”
Working at a pet store, I would have people coming in and arguing with me about needing a vegan diet for their cat because they’re vegan and can’t have meat in the house. Which is a big nono based on their dietary needs. Heck, my own cat is so allergic to everything she’s pretty much on a chicken and tapioca diet but it has to be specially formulated by a vet with purchased vitamin supplements… Not something you pick up at the grocery store.
Sure, some dog foods offer a vegetarian diet, but again… Limited choices based on the needs of the animal and individual health. My dog is actually allergic to lamb and salmon. Shrug
I feel very strongly that once you take an animal home, you are making a commitment to do whatever it takes to keep them healthy and thriving. If feeding animals/animal products to your pets is not something you’re willing to do, then don’t bring home an animal that’s an obligate carnivore. It really is that simple. There are plenty of herbivores to choose from if that’s what you want.
I’ve heard about vegetarian or even vegan diets for dogs, though I haven’t really researched it. My knee-jerk reaction is that it’s an attempt to apply a human sense of ethics and morality to our pets, which isn’t something that sits well with me. But on the other hand, I know that canines are often pretty omnivorous in the wild (all the berries and grass I see in fox poop around here offers pretty solid evidence of that), so maybe canines really can thrive on plant-based diets, I dunno. I’ll have to look into it more so I can have a more informed opinion.
They are called canine teeth for a reason.
Hell, even many boa constrictors don’t get huge, especially if not fed heavily. Venezuelans aren’t crazy big as far as BCCs/BCs. Let alone the many BCI/BIs that stay like 5-6ft or Sigma that’s smaller.
Too many also seem to think “Pythons” are a species. And everything is a Retic lol. But hey, idk the first thing about ballet dancing or football so…
