Boa Constrictors!

I would love to see super forms from that list that are viable. Unfortunately, they dont exist past 2 years of life. I know a few breeders who keep and produce super forms but have not found viable genetics. I am not sure about Aztecs because of Mayan genetics.

I missed Scoria on the list and those have viable genetics.

The first one and the third one are a few of my favorite boas you own. That sunglow you like of mine would be a good addition to them. After it has eaten 3 or 4 times, I will ship her out to you, I believe it’s a female. I will check the sex before shipping. Even if you don’t get babies this year, I am sure you will have some babies in the years to come.

I feel like I made a bit of a breakthrough/discovery with Lenore.

Ever since I got her, she’s been so incredibly reactive to my movement every time I’m moving around her enclosure. Comes out of her hide completely amped up and will strike at the sides of the enclosure if I move too quickly. She taps down beautifully and is totally calm and chill outside the enclosure, but I was hoping to figure out how to make her just a little less reactive before she puts on some real size, because I do have to be on my toes when I first open the enclosure. That’s not a big deal at this size, but this behaviour will be a bit more intimidating when she’s big.

So last night I was experimenting with moving around in different ways right next to her enclosure and watching her reactions. I figured out it was mainly the movement of my hands she was reacting to… and in particular my left hand. I realized that I wear a small black and silver watch on my left wrist, and it occurred to me that she could be reacting to that. Sure enough, when I took off the watch, she chilled out in a matter of seconds. Even when I waved my hands around right next to the enclosure, she didn’t have much reaction when I wasn’t wearing the watch. Got the same results when I tried again just now. Very reactive to the movement of my left hand/wrist, but only when I’m wearing the watch.

I guess I just need to start taking off my watch before working with her, or working around her enclosure. I figure that it could look like the eyeball of a predator or something…or I inadvertently target trained her and she just associates the waving black circle with food. :person_shrugging: Anybody else experience anything like this with their snakes?

Edited to add that I realize she will always have a high food drive and that I’ll always need to tap her down. That’s totally fine. But I’d just prefer her to not always come shooting out of the enclosure the second I open it. :joy: I also had concerns about her injuring herself by striking the side of the enclosure, especially when she gets bigger.

Here’s the culprit:

Don’t tell me boas aren’t smart! Perhaps that watch being silver, illuminated itself in a way that caught her attention or, it’s the circle/food thing. Either way, that, my dear, is extremely interesting!

The whole watch is pretty shiny/reflective, so I can definitely see how it flashing in the light might catch her attention. She gets so fixated on it, just staring it down and following every little movement, coiled to strike.

But weirdly, she doesn’t react to it at all once she’s tapped down and I pick her up. She doesn’t pay any attention to it when I’m handling her. It’s only when she sees it through the walls of her “clear” bin that she gets all worked up.

I have noticed over the years that a lot of my boas and my retci react to shadows and reflections in their cages.

That’d be awesome Tom! Either sex, I’ll have a use with that strong pattern. If male, that would be great cause I could keep Jade my hypo motley lipstick line that way. If female, I’d be looking at Tyr my Arab or crossing to Kubsch squaretail.

I just walked out to Cali’s POS, so she should be due around August 8th if all goes well :crossed_fingers:

Looks solid with nice points going down the side. I want to add ladder down the road but they have such nice solid paterns already that I am worried about them going solid stripe. Not saying thats a bad thing but i like the lava lamp saddles.

I wish I had more time to take pictures and post them on here. Even when I am off of work, I have my side job. And most of that is dealing with State regulations and regulatory agencies (Before we have to deal with EPA.) and try to get this little utility system back into compliance. The last chief operator hadn’t submitted some of the required reports since 4th quarter 2023. And a few that were due in Oct 2024 weren’t done and are very time consuming.

She is for sure a keeper. Held off on this purchase because I wanted to produce one myself. Thinking of naming her snow white but I know she will yellow out down the road.
