Boa Constrictors!

@adon87

Looking forward to seeing the VPI snows. She looks huge so I hope you have a BIG litter of healthy babies.

Thanks @tommccarthy for your kind word, but looks can be deceiving. She definitely looks stuffed but dont think it will be more than a dozen. I am hoping the load is easy for her first time and everything works out.

On a different note, I have been talking to a breeder buddy about his VPI Blood stuff. He probably has the best VPI Blood stuff out there. He was trying to convince me to take the VPI Blood IMG project on. I probably wouldnt think twice about it if it was vpi moonglow IMG stuff. I would be more wiling if it was just VPI Blood, but its mixed with IMG. he has been selling babies for about 15k. I guess that would be nice but then I stop and think about what I have and just appreciate that I have this amazing little pink panther dude and say. Maybe one day but not today.

What do you guys think VPI Blood with or without IMG, or VPI Snowglow with or without IMG?

I keep going back and forth between F1 and F3.

I do like the look of the solid black and hypo IMG stuff. But I notice IMG seems to take color out of the tails in albinos, and sunglows stuff. So I don’t like that as I am trying to make very brightly colored albinos and sunglows.

Also IMG prices have come down alot in the last few years. So if your looking to make big money with it I don’t think it will happen.

Blood boas don’t keep that pretty red color they have as babies. Seems like all adults are brown to a dark rust color. Plus they are a dwarf locality of boa. I personally don’t like small boas. Blood boa prices will be coming down I bet in a few years. So starting with them now you may lose money by the time you raise babies up for breeding.

I keep going back and forth on some morphs to add to what I already have. But I keep thinking just stick with what I have and produced the best look versions of what I have already.

I want to keep boa breeding fun for me not a job that I will hate later on. Many years ago I had over 100 boas. That was a lot to take care of with family life and work. I was starting to hate my boas.

So I down sized to only about 20 then and it became fun again. Now that I am retired form work I spend more time with my boas. Now I have 34 boas and I may end up with around 40+ in the future. But that is all I will keep to make sure it doesn’t even feel like a job.

F3 has the best overall colors of the females but F1 is close. I also like M1 the best. I think this group are going to make fantastic 50% BCA sunglows for me. The only thing I don’t like is all non albinos will be 66% het for albino. And F1 babies as they are all siblings. But that is the only way I can keep them 50% BCA. I guess I could use my Mega Peaked male 50% BCA het albino as he is a cousin. His mom and there mom where sisters. Non related male used for there fathers.

The lower quality goes for 4500 and they dont brown. Not all boas are equal.

I dont chase the money but I do recognize quality when I see it. Markets ebb n flow and understand how that goes. I wouldnt mind buying a lot with a few buildings filled with projects but thats dependent on my kids interest and the way life goes. Start small and build to what is comfortable for you. That can be 0 to infinity :infinity: in a few months or a lifetime depending on your situation.

I think boa prices will stabilize and may bounce up a little once supply dries up from shortage. those who dont belong will move on and those willing to endure will benefit when prices jump back up.

Maybe mathematically it works out that way but not genetically. It all depends what they pull out of that pool. They could end up way less than 50% or way more than 50%. Not sure how specific one could get because thats beyond my paygrade. I do balieve that you will figure out a way to make something amazing.

I think m1 has cleaner crisp contrast but m2 seems more saturated with bold solid saddles and dimonds.

They all look great. Hopefully, you get more visuals so you dont need to mess with 66%. Unless, you like the paterns/build/colors and dont mind making 100% hets.

I think you do well with what you have @tommccarthy and would enjoy a personal moonglow pet. Your 40 numbers will quickly increase with the added anery/snow projects because of odds/statistics or if your trying to do everything. I guess you could just sell the anery/hypo stuff and just keep the Albinos/snow stuff. I feel like you would still gravitate to what you love (albino combos) and perfect the ones that stand out to you. I cant speak for you but seems like thats what you enjoy.

I do think a @tommccarthy 50/50 Brazilian BCXBI Moonglow or Moonglow Motley would look like perfection.

It would be uncle once removed to niece but then they wont breed as true as sibling to sibling. Not sure how high current COI is but I think you have a firm grip on what your doing. I personally would save sibling to sibling for something you want to douplicate and breed true to what you have.

You could breed males to unrelated moms. Uncle once removed to niece. 1 pair sibling to sibling or hold off to cycle them to similar pairing while offspring grow out and then cross those babies and use males from those litters to breed the females that didnt breed.

I agree with you. When I get one of your moonglows added to that project I will give you one or a pair.

I wont be able to make a moonglow for another 2 years if I push it but realistically its more like 3 to 4 years. Snow Bunny is waiting on you. I think :peach: will make you some nice snows.

It would be nice to make some like Bill Gaines use to make. The hight white ones. He had nice looking adults that stayed mostly white and didn’t turn yellow.

I think there maybe a moonglow in the works for you. The litter looks like the odds are in our favor. She is looking big n healthy  with plenty muscle mass to get around so far. The first 10 inches has a medium rat so not all babies. However, still shows how chunky she is.

For some reason I wasnt thinking when I said 2 to 4 years. I think its because I was thinking about the Groovy :sunglasses: :coral: RLT Snows.

Mystro when he was a baby.

He needed a break for feeding but still no interest in breeding. I will update if a litter comes from Afro DD.

Question for those with VPI snakes.

How long before yours started getting color.

Some are born with lots of color … but i have a couple who seem to have very little … in the fidst year changes will be notable depending on what you put in the mix pastels and hypos

Do you find a noticible difference in how quickly they begin to dull out from those that start with color/change earlier from those that dont change until 1 or 2 years old?

Yeah the babies had a different color at birth …
These are barely 1 year old
I thought one had a sangria color but then paled out
