Breeding. Can a short (2 minute) lockup be successful?

This is my first year attempting breeding my hybrid colubrids.

Today, I was able to get my male to lock up with one of my females through a little trickery. They sat still and locked for about two minutes.

I will attempt to pair them again, but could she be fertilized from such a short lock up?

The male is (pos het albino);
37.5% pueblan milk
25% cal king
25% Honduran milk
12.5% corn

The female is (albino);
75% corn
25% Nelson milk

It is possible but by a very small margin, usually longer locks lead to successful follicle fertilization.

If you want to increase chances of success you should definitely attempt to pair them multiple times, once after every 2 weeks or so until you know your female is gravid. If the female seems stressed by the male increase time between pairings.

I’m intrigued by the hybridization going on, what are your plans for these guys? :slight_smile:

Me too! I’m interested in what these babies are going to look like!

I have to see viscous yellow “leftovers” before I feel good about the session. :slight_smile:
