I have an albino snow corn. Unsure the gender, however, I would like to eventually find a mate that will possibly produce some awesome color combinations and patterns. Any suggestions?
Hi! You probably don’t know the genetics of your Snow beyond homozygous Amel and Anery. You’re not going to get anything too exotic in a first generation. For variety in Gen1, you might choose a Ghost (Anery Hypo) Tessera het Amel. For “awesome” stuff, you’d probably want to make a plan for what you want to produce. You could breed with something with a more exotic trait combination and recover fun stuff in the second generation. Most corn mutations are recessive. ![]()
I really don’t know much about it to be honest. I may order a test to check genetics and gender for sure. I had one person who said it’s a boy without popping or probing or anything and said she could “feel his hempenis”? I don’t know much about this one. I got him from a friend who wasn’t sure of the morph/gender either.
I’m pretty good at visual sexing from a very clear pic of the underside of the snake’s back half.
I drew an arrow to indicate the vent.
The shape looks female to me. I had to guesstimate near the tip, but I think there are fewer than 70 subcaudal scale pairs, indicating probable female.
Thanks! I know he/she is beautiful! Pinks, yellows, slight “coral” coloring in the saddles with grey or silver “rings” around the saddles.
I would love to actually get genetic testing on him/her to confirm gender and what all genes/morphs it has.
Unfortunately there are only 5 tests on RGI’s page available for corns at the moment.
One is sexing.
The others are amelanistic, lavender, scaleless and terrazzo.
So it may be a while before you can really pin down much if they’re carrying anything other than Amel and anery.
Is there any other way to find out?
Breeding trials for non-visual hets. But if we could see decent pics in indirect natural light, we could probably tell you what mutations are being visually expressed.
Do these help? If not, I can try for better ones later.
I’d say she’s a pretty Snow of the standard variety, so Amel + Anery. ![]()
Thanks. I trust you on the gender. I am just making sure because I want to make sure when I do get a mate to get the right one… Lol
So, In your opinion, What do you think would be good combos for a mate?
Ghost het Amel. Amel het Anery Hypo. A Salmon Snow. It’s best if you know what you want to produce prior.
Not sure. Obviously a mix of the same as what mine is and maybe some variants with more pops of brighter color perhaps?
