Excellent! Good luck with mom and the clutch.

Those 2 should make some killer babies Caryl! :star_struck:

Thanks! She’s plump and in the mood for love. I’ll try them together a couple more times. :crossed_fingers:

I was thinking I’d aim for four or five clutches, depending upon timing. That’s still the plan. Of course there are at least 7 or 8 other pairings I’d like to try but, darn that reality thing, some will just have to wait.

This is so exciting @caryl! I know some people just put them together for a couple days or a week, but I agree—I have to see the lock and KNOW. This is especially true when you have to limit your clutches to 4-5, maybe 6. It must be so hard to narrow down and pick who is most important to pair. Ah, the possibilities! That’s the definitely the trouble with corns—it’s like a paintbrush for the snake artist. So many artistic possibilities! I’m holding my breath for Linette and Beau, but I’m also excited to see all the stripes. I LOVE stripes.

Thank you! I am excited about them all. For the latest, I am really hoping to get some Strawberry Lavender Stripes from Excalibur and Twist. She may not carry both of those pos hets, but then again she may. Then there is his ph Amel. Regardless, they should have gorgeous babies and I hope to get answers about some hets.

It is. It’s made even more challenging and sometimes frustrating because my decisions aren’t the last word. The chosen snakes themselves have to be able, ready, and willing at the same time. It doesn’t always work that way.

That’s a wonderful phrase, and you’re spot-on!

Yeah, I did not realize how difficult this can be in real life. All the YouTubes and books make it sound simple. “Put the male and female together and wa la.” Not really!

Ooooh, what a beautiful pairing! I love lavender stuff!

Well, apparently sometimes it really is as simple as “put male and the female together.” Not that I’m complaining, but the last two couples have certainly wasted no time.

I love Lavender stuff, too. Here’s my maybe final pairing with Lavender this season. Both of these are first-time parents, so who knows what will happen. Peredur (Orchid who seems Tessera though he wasn’t sold as such, unknown hets) x Jubilee (Peach Sunkissed het Hypo, Lavender, 66% ph Amel, 50% ph Anery, Caramel, Cinder, Diffused, Lava, Motley).

You’re going to have some phenomenal little ones this year, if all goes well! Glad to hear some of your couples are making life easy. It’s always nice when they get right to work and you don’t have to worry!

Thanks! I certainly hope it goes well. Last year was incredible and I am duly grateful, especially after the rough season of 2023.

It’s kinda funny how we can spend weeks trying to make things happen, putting pairs together to no avail, then they decide it’s time and bang, it’s done in moments.

Two females refused their mice today. Truffles is now 32 days post-lock. I’m guessing she’s about to head into a pre-lay shed. Linette also refused. It’s only day 21 for her, so I’m hoping she will still eat. I’ll give her a day or two and try smaller prey.

Purple Wonder shed, so I put her and Galahad together. They locked immediately. That’s their first and last lock, though. Everything seemed normal. I stepped out of the room for all of five minutes and came back to a mess. Looks like she tried to pull away and somebody got hurt. There was nothing to see externally, which is good, but they had blood everywhere. They’re separated and on newspapers now. Hopefully they’ll be all right. And yes, I hope that there are some babies from the pairing. He’s Moonstone het Amel, Diffused, Strawberry, Stripe. She’s Diffused Strawberry Lavender Motley 66% ph Anery, 50% ph Caramel.

It’s getting exciting for those 2 mommas to be! Maybe there will be some Easter eggs!

I can’t even wait to see what comes out of that pair! This is going to be another exciting year!:confetti_ball::tada::sunglasses:

I love her. Good luck to her!

Thanks, Caron and Dean! I don’t know about Easter, but hopefully eggs soon. Truffles looks quite chunky, poor girl.

I know once is usually enough. Going to keep an eye on the latest pair to ensure that they do all right after their… incident. This is one of those times when I wish snakes were easier to inspect for injuries.

Here is hoping  they will be ok Caryl! Talk about “tough love “! :joy:

I always wonder about the evolutionary pro/cons for species where the males have evolved physically to make sure it is difficult to ahem seperate him from the female
Male cats of all species have rear facing barbs, similar to things like fossas, and this is actually vital to the female ovulating but like…when does evolution deem that being that hard to separate is a bad thing? I’m sure many many herps in the wild pass each year because of unlocking issues, but I guess not enough for the system to need fixed?

Thinking WAY too hard about this now, but it’s interesting to consider!

Edit to add: I know evolution isn’t linear and doesn’t happen to ‘fix’ problems, but generally negative effects get weeded out through natural selection, so it’s just wild to me a system of reproduction with such risk for damage to both parties is so common
