It has officially begun! I’ve been putting prospective pairs together for some while without any real results. There’s a lot going on in life now and I haven’t been too assertive with pairings, just keeping an eye on sheds and body condition. Last night we had the first confirmed lock!
Bragi (Caramel Ghost Stripe het Amel, likely Halo) with Truffles (Caramel Cube het Amel, Anery, Hypo, pos Halo). It’s her first season, his second pairing. Fun possibilities here, with or without Halo. I’ve got several projects going but I still love my Stripes.
Woo hoo! And the games begin!
Ooh I love them! Congrats!
They’re fantastic! Good luck with this pairing, and the rest, Caryl.
Thanks, everyone! There are about a dozen pairings I would like to do this year, but I’m definitely not doing them all. Probably only going to be four or five, maybe six, depending upon who actually cooperates. Lots of first-timers.
@caryl it was late when I saw this post last night so I just wanted to wish you the best and those two lookers are going produce a spectacular clutch!
Good luck!!! Can’t wait for pips !!!
Thank you, thank you! Should be some wonderful Stripes in various colors. I am hoping for female Caramel Ghost Stripe for myself. A Butter Cube would be nice, too, and a Halo Butter Stripe. Perhaps an Amber Stripe/Cube, an Anery Caramel Cube/Stripe female (for Fortunato someday). Xanthic Snow Stripes are lovely, too, and…
Yes, this is why I have so many corn snakes.
I love cubes, but you don’t hear about people wishing for them in Stripe clutches. I hope you get them.
Thanks, @deanaii. I should get Cubes, assuming I get babies of course. These bloodlines generally produce some good Cubes along with great Stripes. I don’t understand how this works, but there are usually some exceptionally clean, full Stripes and some nice Cubes. It seems logically like those should be distinct from one another. I’ve talked to other breeders who work with Cubes and they’ve also seen this.
So excited to see what spectacular little ones are produced this year!
Yay, I can finally add to this thread! Been putting pairs together without known success until this morning. These two took about two minutes to lock. Beau (Peach Fire het Caramel, Lavender) and Linette (Peach Hypo Plasma het Caramel). It’s her first season so we’ll see how it goes.
Edited to add images.
Im curious why you have them on newspaper?
The newspaper is there to capture evidence of a lock in case I don’t actually see it happen. Normally I put pairs in bins, watch them for a few minutes, then go about other tasks. If they have a lock there’s usually some spillage which shows up on the paper. If they have only the plastic bin, they can smear it around so much it basically disappears and there’s no way to know they mated.
Had I known these two would mate immediately, I wouldn’t have bothered with the newspaper. Lol
I do the same with paper towels. I wanna know. Some people do sleepovers in their enclosures, but I need to see the evidence.
Good luck! They look great together.
Or Caryl! I can’t wait to see the babies from these guys!
They are gorgeous!!
Thanks! I do sleepovers in somebody’s enclosure on occasion, too. When I do, I strip out the bedding and put down paper. I’m like you, Dean. I want to know.
Thanks, @caron and @solarserpents ! This is another clutch I’ve been looking forward to for years, since I bought Linette in 2022. Should be some nice babies.
Presenting happy couple #3, Excalibur and Twist! This pairing should produce some lovely babies, regardless of which hets do/don’t prove out, and if there are actually babies I should find out about most of the pos hets.
