Bullsnake feeding advice?

Got a bullsnake in march and although iv done tones of reserch i cant find a definitive answer on how often to feed and how much
Shes 8/9 months old currently weighes 188(due a poop) and around 2 to 2 and half ft
Does anyone have some sort of feedimg guide or just experience in keeping bullsnakes and how to go about feeding
Shes currently on rat fuzzies 15 to 19g but they dont leave a bump so i picked up the next size the shop does but they look massive compared to the fuzzies
I weighed them and there between 42 and 50g
Should i feed double of the fuzzies for abit or go up or stick to 1 fuzzie
Also how often do they feed? Everything iv read says they grow quickly and have fast metabolism so eat more often,more/bigger pray than corns
Shes our 7th snake others are 2 corns and 4 hognoses

Hi and welcome. I won’t pretend to have any answers for you but I’m gonna call for @eorr53 , who has a lot of knowledge about bull snakes. He will be able to help.

Please try again to load your image. We love pics! It looks like you didn’t wait quite long enough for it to finish uploading.

Im not sure if this will help- I’m also curious about what the correct feeding size would be, but I have my ~10 month male bullsnake on f/t hoppers as of last week. I also noticed the fuzzies didn’t leave a “bump” and he always seemed to still be hungry so I tried the hopper last week. Anyway, the hoppers leave a slight bulge and seem to be more of the correct size for his age & length (he’s just reached ~22 inches).

Your girl is beautiful! Here’s my picture tax!:

Beautiful  unfortunately the local shops dont do rat hoppers
My closest actually doesnt do smaller than a small weaner rat the other that i normally get from between online orders after fuzzies its small weaners to
May have to look online but delivery is crazy which is why i get 9ish months at a time
Tho with them messing up my last order i do need large mice to

Shame that they don’t sell rat hoppers! To clarify I’ve been feeding mice fuzzies & hoppers, sorry if that caused confusion! :hugs:

Ah ok i was advices to get her on to rats as thats what shed need pretty soon as mice dont go big enough so i swapped from medium mice which is what the breeders had just started her on to rat fuzzies as there similar size

If that’s what the breeder has her on it should be fine. We’ll have to wait for Eorr’s response as I’m a first time owner so take anything I say with a grain of salt . (Not sure if mice or rats would be better to start them off on, I do plan on feeding my boy appropriately sized rats when he’s big enough).

I would say she could easily take small mice. I have a bull as well about the same size and age as yours and she easily takes small mice….

This was taken when I first got her

She was on medium mice with the breeder but they recommended swapping to similar size rats so i got rat fuzzies as they work out same size as medium mice but they no longer leave a bump
Your baby is adorable

Beautiful albino bull you have there. I feed my bulls and pines mice until they are big enough to take weaned rats. Based on the in hand shot you shared, I would say your bull could be taking a large hopper/small adult mouse. More mature feeders have better nutritional value so I opt for going larger over multiple feeders when pinkies/fuzzies are involved. I wouldn’t go any larger than 1.5x the thickest part of the snake. These guys can handle pretty large meals but no need to push them. I switch to rats once they are able to take weaned rats.

As far as frequency goes, I usually just feed weekly but will sometimes skip a week here and there.

Thanks Eric for the clarification. So I guess I am doing right by my girl by feeding her small adult mice. She’s not big enough to take rats yet. So maybe the advice I gave wasn’t too far off……

Might I ask how old & long your girl is? I’d like to make sure I’m feeding Moonshine appropriately sized meals & am unsure if I should move from hoppers to small mice. Although I’m not sure if moving from fuzzies to hoppers to small mice in 3 weeks would be good for his body? Have you ever done that transition with any of your corns? Sorry to bother, TIA if you do respond! (Just to recap he’s 10 months, about 22 inches, and has just been transitioned to f/t mice hoppers last Sunday).

So I totally understand your concern. If you are currently feeding hoppers and you are noticing a slight bulge then I would stick with them for awhile or at least until the bulge is not as noticeable. I have not weighed or measured my girl but I have been keeping so many different types of snakes that I can just guesstimate what to feed and when.

That being said, if I were you I would not stress so much over what you are feeding your boy. It is better to err on the side of caution and not offer rodents that are too large for the snake to eat, because it will try and then possibly regurgitate, which is what you want to avoid.

There is nothing wrong with feeding hoppers for a few weeks and then upgrade to small adult mice. Your boy will be just fine eating at a slower consistent pace. As long as you avoid regurgitation, you are on the right track……

Edit to add: My little Red Bull is a 2025. She has a head wobble due to an incubation issue which I knew about when I bought her. But she eats very well and is the sweetest little bull, no attitude at all……
