Ive bred geckos previously but its our first time trying to breed snakes.
We have a lovely pair of bullsnakes, they were down for brumation over winter (from about October until recently) theyve been eating voraciously after waking and whilst the female is interactive with the male, interested and twitching, the male just… doesnt care? He just goes about his business and is almost acting as though the female doesnt even exist.
They’ve been probe sexed previously, and i know tail sexing is not reliable, but i have images in case anyone sees anything im missing. Or if theres any tips that might up our chances of a successful lock and eggs! Thank you
While I can’t help with sexing via tail on these or breeding advice, if you don’t get any results from them you can always have them DNA sexed via shed for certainty.
Just answered a question related to this for someone the other day, actually! I’m not sure when their next shipment is going out or the costs, but it is available. They ship in batches so I’m guessing that keeps the price down.
@relicexotics I’m not sure I am going to be a lot of help here because all of my bulls are still too young to pair up. Is it possible to have them probed again to confirm the sex of each? I can’t see anything in those pics that would make me lean one way or the other on the sex of either of them.
I’m in the U.K and will try to help in any way I can.
As others have said ,its difficult to tell from your pic alone ,but assuming they are a pair ,here’s two things I’d add .
keep them apart , wait until the female sloughs ,this may stimulate the male when re introduced to the female.
monitor feeding ,females often eat more than males in breeding season.Males tend switch off food once breeding mode kicks in.
