Confused about one of my new hatchlings

Had a clutch that recently hatched out. Three I’m pretty sure of…… normal and two killer clowns but there’s an additional pastel that I’m at a loss about. He’s got swirly funky patterning in my opinion at least. First time breeding balls so maybe it’s nothing special but figured I’d ask here.

Photos are whole clutch. With the oddball in the back. Following few pics are oddball in question then pics are of mom and dad. Then one last pic full body of the oddball

Mom-pastel VPI Axanthic het Clown

Pops- pewter het Clown

Thanks for taking the time to look❤️

Id be happy to make a bet that the mother, and that baby, are + YB or Gravel.

That would be an awesome bonus. Honestly the baby is so interesting looking I was seriously debating holding it back regardless. @eaglereptiles

Congrats on your first clutch! Those are great odds there.

As far as your hatchlings go a little advice.
If you do hold back that little one, remember there’s a 33% chance that he won’t have het clown but he will be 100% het axanthic from mom. Ideally if you want to continue breeding for axanthic clown, you’d want to hold back at least one of your clown het axanthics. Just helps further your project a bit more.

For that little one you can always try to prove out YB or Gravel later on, but he’s at least a cute little het axanthic. =)

Yeah that was the plan with the killer clowns (holding them back). And yeah for once in my life the odds worked in my favor  the normal is probably going to my niece if we get her moms final ok (and they get all the proper stuff for him) she’s 13 and has been helping me with all the animals and is a good responsible kid and has been wanting a snake) though if we have two female clowns we might let one go. (Husband and I have to talk it out). We might just bite the bullet and get the genetic test run for the pastel (since yellow belly, gravel, and clown are three that can be tested for). And that would probably be the deciding factor if we do keep for sure.

Regardless I’m super happy and excited and glad the babies that made it seem happy and healthy!:heart:

I would love to see pictures of the two clowns side by side when they shed out, because they look pretty different to me. One has the more standard clown alien heads pattern and the other looks significantly more reduced

Your Clowns are both just Clown Pastels, they are not nearly blushed out enough to be SuperPastel.

Also agree with this.

Was the female purchased as a proven adult? Because I somewhat wonder if you may have a case of sperm retention going on here

As for your oddball, fairly certain ti is what is colloquially known as a “Jungle” Pastel. It is a non-heritable pattern disruption that pops up now and then

Nah purchased her as a three month old juvenile from a fairly big name ball python breeder. And will definitely post pics when they shed. I need all the knowledgeable input I can get.:+1:t2:

Also I did hit the breeder up on Instagram (that the mother was purchased from two years ago) and he made the same comment that he thought the oddball was just a pastel with a unique pattern (nothing genetic)

Ok guys @chesterhf @nidhoggnoses @eaglereptiles @t_h_wyman @armiyana

don’t laugh but in the first pic of him after the litter picture, he looks like a jungle carpet python to me, except for his head…… his markings I mean of course.

Or some kind of carpet python……

Any way he is very different!!! :lizard::frog::snake:

Yeah s/he’s definitely wild. Think I might just hold this one back for a bit at least to see what s/he looks like grown out a bit. Almost looks psychedelic.

Yep I sure would! He makes a great conversation piece! :lizard::frog::snake:

Almost looks firefly or ghi ish. But agree w above cool pastel, the mom has a similar unusual pattern & the dad is pewter which also throws patterns plus 2 hets at play.
Those pastel clowns are interestingly very different as well. Follow up pics will be interesting.

I’ve seen Cinny do weird stuff like that, so may be Cinny without the pastel? I’m no BP expert, but the wee one is super clean and def interesting! Congrats regardless.

Yeah I’m definitely going to post more pics. There’s also a sterling (or what I believe to be baby). Didn’t know if he was gonna come through he didn’t absorb his entire yolk but the remainder fell off the day before yesterday and I think he’s gonna be fine. Waiting on everyone’s first shed to get some more photos

Couple more pics with the silver baby added since he’s out of the woods.

Not enough blushing to be Firefly and too clean to have GHI

Cinny do not have anywhere near as much yellow to them

Confirmed, that is a Sterling

Also, seeing the head of your reduced Clown Pastel, I suspect that it is carrying Blade. That normal het also looks like it could be Blade as well

That would be pretty cool  @t_h_wyman
