Confusion and Yellow Belly

Hello Everyone :sunny:

I would love to have your thoughts on the clutch below. It’s my first time mixing Confusion and Yellow Belly. Pairing was :male_sign: Yellow Belly Pastel Desert Ghost × Confusion Enchi Pastel :female_sign:. These are my thoughts on genetics:

A - Confusion Yellow Belly het Desert Ghost
B - Confusion Yellow Belly het Desert Ghost
C - Confusion Yellow Belly Pastel het Desert Ghost
D - Confusion Yellow Belly Pastel het Desert Ghost
E - Confusion Yellow Belly Super Pastel het Desert Ghost

Did I really hit Confusion on each babies ? :slightly_smiling_face: Please tell me what do you think :pray:t2:

Yes you hit Confusion on all these. However, you did not hit YB in all of them. I do not believe B or D have YB. And I am not certain about E either

Thank you, your reply is interesting. I am not a Yellow Belly expert, but to me snake A and snake B are the same snakes. Could you please be more specific on why you think snake A doesn’t have YB and snake B does ? What to look for in YB ?

I am learning each days and I love it.

Thank a lot in advance :pray:t2:

First, I need to correct myself. I was rushing to a meeting and miscalled my IDs in my prior post (I corrected it)

To be clear however, between these two animals I believe A carries YB

The differences are subtle, and it is possible that what I am seeing may just be down to lighting/screen differences but these are the things I am picking out that A has different:

  • The colouring in the gold areas is ever so slightly brighter
  • There is a slight enhancement of the headstamp, the slight line from the nostril to the lip, and the upper lip stripe from the eye forward
  • The lateral patterning is just slightly cleaner looking. Less gritty/grainy
  • Where as B has a more chaotic patterning on the anterior portion of its body while the posterior region is markedly less so, A has a more uniform semi-chaos over the body overall
  • There is greater “creep” of mini-patterning coming up from the belly
  • There is slightly more blushing to the laterals

Again, I will caveat that my interpretation from a pic taken by your camera over a computer screen may be skewing things versus the actual animals in hand. I will also caveat that I am basing my calls of my work with Acid which has been confirmed to be genetically different from Confusion, so that may also lead to different interpretation

One thing that might help would be belly shots. Acid YB tend to frequently (but not always) have a very interestingly prominent black belly stripe

I agree with @t_h_wyman on the absence of Yellow Belly on those individuals. Also. It may help to pay particular attention to details in the face since the combination of Pastel and YB often causes the appearance of distortion in the markings, as well as more chaotic patterning on the body with the lighter coloration and blushing, which can help with ID among other things. Confusion is one of my favorite morphs. Nice clutch!
