Could this be Pickle’s egg? No male was around so no doubt it is infertile. So if this is an egg I suppose Pickle is a little girl!
yep, that looks like an egg to me!
Oh my goodness! But it can’t be fertile could it? Should I just leave it alone?
It shouldn’t be, unless pickles has been around a male. Parthenogenesis is pretty rare for geckos I think
Could always candle and see, but it’s unlikely
So I have no idea as to how to candle or incubate so I will just leave it alone. It’s so tiny!
It would be so cool if it hatched!
Definitely looks like an egg, and yeah it could be fertile, but most likely isn’t. Though i don’t believe parthenogenesis is as rare in cresties as some believe, I’ve experienced it personally several times over the years. If you wanna candle it, all you have to do is shine a light through it. An infertile egg will be all yellow, whereas a fertile egg will have a red circle or be mostly red depending on how far along it it
Ok thank you! I will try it! That little egg is so cute!
I have known quite a few breeders that have produced viable parto cresties and leachies
Awe, congrats on the little eggy.
I’m assuming this is the first time she’s laid? They’ll usually lay in pairs but if they are fresh layers they very well may only produce singular eggs until their ovaries kick into full gear.
I’d say the egg is most likely infertile if there was no male involved but just looking at the egg and how white & undented it is screams viability. Looks like any other fertile egg I’ve personally seen so I’d definitely candle it. You’ll most likely see a little red ring/dot with some veins if it is fertile, and if it is not the whole egg will appear yellow on the inside.
If this is a case of Partho you can leave the egg either in her enclosure to incubate or you can incubate at room temp in a little airtight container at a dark calm spot of your home. Just be diligent for teeny little gecko babies if you chose to incubate in the enclosure, momma will not differentiate her babies from food. Also keep in mind that some Partho babies do not thrive, if they even make it to full term inside the egg.
Oh I hope this egg is viable!
I have it in damp sphagnum moss. So I remove the moss? I can put it in a bathroom so it is dark.
@cmsreptiles Yes this is her first time. She looks plump so she may present me with another one. I am excited either way!
And I read it takes 3 months? I tried to candle it but I couldn’t see anything but the white egg…. Incubate until there’s no debate….
