Saw this girl on Craigslist advertised as a butter. Thoughts?? Thanks y’all!
Looks like a butter
I’ve never used Craigslist it always seemed so scary to me.
Yes, I would not buy reptiles from Craigslist and had to deal with Nido virus which is very horrible and devastating.
Just my thoughts.
My biggest girl was a craigslist purchase and is one of my favorites - has given me two clutches so far and eats like a beast once she got settled into my care. As long as the snake is in good condition and the seller doesn’t seem sketchy I wouldn’t cut out craigslist animals all together. You just have to know what to look for as far as genes and possible scams (also, you can pick up health issues from anyone, not just craigslist sellers). Personally I much prefer buying in person than having something go wrong with shipping.
I don’t think i could trust people to meet in person, they could be luring people in to rob them or rob then kill them. I seen lots if Craigslist incidence where a buyer shiws up to the fake ad then gets robbed or the seller shows thinking they had a legitimate sale only to get robbed of the item(s) they were there to sell and whatever else they had like their wallet phone or anything else of value. Sure you could get scammed online as well but better that than lying in the street with a bullet in you.
True. But that could happen just by going outside around other people, and there are ways to protect yourself and stay safe. Not saying anyone has to do in person meet ups for sales of course, and if someone feels more comfortable avoiding it completely than that’s perfectly valid.
I just wouldn’t overlook craigslist animals if I like how they look and I’ve spoken with the seller enough to feel comfortable setting something up. Same goes for any animal that I’d be picking up in person regardless of if I found them on craigslist, MorphMarket , facebook, kingsnake, fauna, etc.
Also just realized I never actually answered your question, Sam! Yes, I’d say that looks pretty butter-ish? Haven’t handled one myself but it looks like a lot of them I’ve seen on the market. Is the seller willing to provide full body pictures outside the enclosure?
Ive sold and had great experiences on craigslist with reptiles. Dont let peoples “stories” about how horrible craigslist is scare you. Ive seen some of the worst snakes at expos/shows. I never meet at my house, always a public location.
This not just a “craigslist” thing either. Anyone who is responsible should quarantine any new animal to begin with no matter where the reptile came from.
yes they are! but after some consideration, I only have limited space in my home and I think I need to focus on purchasing specific animals for my breeding goals rather than being able to acquire this super sweet looking butter. the person selling was very responsive which was nice, so I’m sure they’d be willing to send more photos upon request!
thanks everyone for your input that this girl is a butter! I do not think I’ll be getting her since I do not really need another BEL-complex female in the breeding plans, but thanks for your help everyone!
also Craigslist is totally fine for me, I’ve bought and sold plenty of things through there and FB marketplace and always have the person meet at a local grocery store during daylight hours
There are a few MorphMarket breeders that advertise on craigslist. So not all ads or snakes are bad…
I use Craigslist to advertise my snakes, being a small breeder and all sometimes you gotta make do.
Though I rarely actually make sales through there, lot of tire kickers unfortunately
I will often sell my lower end animals locally on Craigslist. Normals, single and double gene ones. Even more common 3 and 4 gene snakes. They sell fast too. But I sell them cheap so that helps
