I have a crested gecko who while I was on vaccination my pet sitter “forgot to mist” even though I said to 2x a day and he now has some stuck shed on his feet witch hasn’t come off after 2 days and I don’t want it to become and issue, how can I fix this?
If your gecko will let you, you can use a wet Q-tip or cotton swab and try to rub it off with that. Don’t rip it off because that could be painful to the gecko. If that doesn’t work you can try putting the gecko in a container with high humidity for 10 minutes to loosen it and try rubbing it off again.
I’d put him/her in a tub with wet kitchen roll and mist, leave him/her in there for a little bit.
I’m surprised not dead if not misted at all… Sunken eyes and saggy skin?…
It was only for 4 days other than the shed he’s completely fine I tried to upload some photos I took but it won’t let me
I got a good bit of it off using being VERY gentle with the wet q tip after about 10min the the high humidity container there was A lot more than I thought so I’m gonna try to get the rest tonight or tomorrow the only part I was worried about is he had some on his feet/toes and I don’t want him to lose his toes As I’ve seen it before with Leopard geckos
You have the right idea. Being patient and slowly working it off is a good idea. Is your gecko an adult? If so the risk of losing toes is much lower since they grow slowly.
he will be 2 in September if I remember correctly
The risk of losing toes is unlikely then. It might come off with the next shed, but it’s still a good idea to try to get it off if it’s constricting something.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking I didn’t know that the risk went down as they got older thanks!
It’s because they are growing a lot slower. A baby grows fast, so stuck shed constricting a toe on a baby is much more dangerous.
