It’ll be interesting to see how he ends up, because Marquina’s saddles used to be a similar bronzey tone and she’s graying out now. Jet will definitely be an interesting looking snake full grown. I wonder if his saddle borders will still be visible then or if he will truly be one solid color.

He has such diffusion, he may be one color eventually. Don’t you just love watching them grow and develop? It’s one of the many things I adore about corn snakes.

This project took a major blow when Onyx decided to make a clutch of dud eggs when not yet big enough to breed and in her attempts to find a good place to lay got her head wedged and stuck in the opening to her cage and she ended up passing away. Absolute freak accident but I was devastated and almost gave up. But I’m glad I didn’t.
I bred Jet and Dusk together this year, and got a clutch with 9 gorgeous babies, including one that is almost as dark as Onyx was at hatching. But all of them have very strong potential and will be staying for about 18 months to 2 years as I document their color changes. Most of the pewters have their father’s level of diffusion, and several had noses lacking in pigment that makes me wonder if pied-sided is going to pop up in another couple generations.
