I have what I believe to be a Dark Matter Pied produced from a pair of dbl hets that were made a few year’s ago.
As you can see what should be black is actually some deep purples that will look even better after it sheds.
I will need to confirm the genetics by testing this boy for Albino, if it test result comes back negative as I believe it will, this will be another massive step forward for this project.

Here’s an odd suggestion. Not sure if it would work… but one way to ID banana in BEL is by shining a light on the top of the head to ‘candle’ them. The light shines behind the eyes. On a usual BEL only the pupil shines red. banana BEL the whole eye shines red.
As an albino allelic combo I would think the eyes may react the same way and a dark sun might shine all red and the pied would be just the pupil

Dark Suns have normal eyes, they do not show any Albino traits.
This was one of the main reasons it have taken us so long to get people to believe that they are a visual double het as they do not look like they are Albino complex at all.

Which is why if you made the point of it being allelic with albino and the black is actually a more purple color…
It could be another point in showing that? Or to help potentially ID them against other dark animals.
A normal ball python’s pupil won’t glow at all with the test…But a piebald ball python will still have a pupil that glows red. Even with the dark iris.
I’m mostly just curious about it is all. It’s a neat looking gene with potential if it reacts with other genes well.

It reacts really well with other genes in the double het form.
I believe the gene is now isolated and we will start making Dark Matter combos to see how the Dark Matter gene reacts on its own with other genes.

I think it’s taking people a long time to believe that they are visual because a majority of the community can be easily confused when you say “visual double het”. I like the look of this project. I think you do have something of interest!
