Day gecko behaviour question

Heya! My two day geckos are growing, one presumed male, one presumed female. They share an enclosure (36 x 36 inchs, 3ft x 3ft) and they don’t fight. However, when it comes to feeding time… they steal crickets out of each others mouths! It was ok when they were smaller, but now they are bigger, I’m just a little worried. Will they hurt each other doing this? Thank you!

Will they hurt each other? Hard to say. Can they hurt each other? Absolutely.
Monitoring them while feeding is obviously needed. If one really lays into the other then I would separate them immediately.

Have you tried tong feeding or offering multiple stations for feeding? That can possibly help keep them from jumping at each other.
Do they get supplemental food like a jelly?

I second this all the way.

If I remember correctly Day Geckos have very delicate skin, so much so that its reccomended not to handle them unless absolutely necessary. So if one manages to get ahold of the other or they both get ahold of eachother it could cause pretty bad damage if not fatal damage…

If you still choose to house them together I really recommend tong feeding them individually and making sure they are eating bite size meals that the other cannot grab ahold of while one is eating, as well as monitoring them until they are no longer showing a feed response.

Totally agree with this. I think tong feeding is imperative to keep these little guys safe. It’s probably not possible to feed them separately but it’s important to make sure each one gets enough to eat. Hopefully they are not picking on each in general and not just at meal time.
