I’ve got this little 10g tank set up with live cacti and succulents just sitting empty on my counter.
I thought about adding some various Tenebrionidae species but I’m wondering if they will chew on the plants. Would you add heat/additional light to this setup? Ambient daytime temp at counter level is 75 F. Whole room drops to 72 F at night. Anything other than beetles you’d try instead?
Sorry about the weird angle of the picture, I’ve got a lot of stuff going on in the background right now lol
Death feigning beetles would look great in there, and they might not chew on the plants too much if you give them other food. (Just what I’ve heard second-hand, never kept them myself.)
Velvet ants would also look great in there, they’re super active and fun to observe. I’ve never kept them, but I see them out on our local hiking trails all the time, I love them.
A wolf spider would also look great in there, and would definitely leave the plants alone.
I’ve seen velvet ants for sale periodically on the Bugs In Cyberspace website, so that’s definitely something to consider. I hadn’t thought of a wolf spider!
Oh I’ve got some stuff already set up for those lol. They’re wicked cool! I’ve heard that they need something to hang from while molting so this probably wouldn’t be a good enclosure for them. I plan on getting the white spot Platymeris biguttatus first, but those horrid kings are so neat I just love all their spikes and spines!
