I’m looking at getting a Candino ball python as I really like how they age with the coloration, and they don’t seem to fade like a lot of other ball python morphs. Something that definitely catches my eye, though, are the pastel Candinos, who have just beautiful bright coloration. My worry is that if I get one, the pastel gene would make it fade with age. Is that what happens?
Pretty much all ball pythons will fade to some degree. It definitely won’t be as bright as an adult as it is as a baby.
Yeah, I definitely get that. That’s one of the reasons I was drawn to the Candino morph because I’ve seen a couple of videos online of them as adults, and they honestly get even more beautiful. I was just wondering if the browning out pastel effect would happen to a Candino pastel.
The yellows will fade to a lighter color, but there won’t be any browning. They are T- so they won’t have the tyrosine to make that color.
Iirc, Caramel albinos are T+ so they will become more brown as they age. But they’re not worked with as much because of the kinking and fertility issues.
I believe ultramels tend to stay a bit brighter than caramel albinos but they can still brown out on the darker areas and the yellows will fade.
