Does RodentPro breed their own or import from China?

Is it just me misunderstanding the context of your post, an inquiry due to your social media presence/content, a “coincidence,” or is this just seriously creepy that you just happened to be researching this very topic?

Sounds par for the creepy course these days. I can discuss a product with someone in private text, and then suddenly start getting targeted ads for it the next day.

I was talking with my friend about a sort of obscure musician. Neither of us had searched the internet nor even used our phones as we were having the conversation. Guess what ads appeared on her Facebook? Yep, merch for that specific person. THEN, she brought up some song by Rick Astley. I’d never heard of him but didn’t bother to look him up on my phone either. When I got back home, I opened Amazon Music and guess whose name and song is the first thing I see? Yup. Scary, scary and getting worse.

Anyway, back on topic, I love this thread/topic and appreciate the time and effort @ballornothing and @noodlehaus have spent to help us all be better informed. I learn something new on here every day!

Yes ma’am our phones are listening and I won’t say anything else because I don’t want to get flagged, again!!! :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

But you bring up an interesting subject!:+1:

I am absolutely amazed. Have you never been Rick Rolled? Or just never knew the singer/song from that meme? It’s when you look at a video or gif and suddenly turns to Rick Astley’s ‘Never gonna give you up’

Sorry this just genuinely surprises me cause I still see people get Rick Rolled even years after the fad happened.

I think I was living under a rock  I did recognize the song, but hadn’t heard of Rick Astley. I don’t even know what Rick Rolled means either, ha. I mean, I never even had any kind of steak until I was at a friend’s house when I was 18. I’m in my forties and feeling like crawling right back under that rock about now :face_with_peeking_eye:

In this case I wouldn’t call it creepy, as Don has posted on IG about the rodent issue with tags about feeders. As these companies do a lot of social media trawling, it’s not outside the realm of possibilty that they’re just monitoring the tags and messaging any reptile people in hopes of a sale.

It absolutely would not surprise me if this is one of the suppliers ARS uses.

@gina5678 @noodlehaus My IG account trends in China fairly often. I have no idea why. Several years ago before they were on the scene in the US hobby at all a company called Reptizoo reached out to me and asked if I wanted to distribute for them. At the time I thought no one would really want commercialized Chinese enclosures. Boy was I wrong, they’ve gotten very popular.

I have a history of ignoring profitable business deals that come through my IG. In 2015 a guy named JT reached out to me and asked if I wanted to distribute coco husk for his company called Reptichip. I was like no thanks, I use it but I’m not sure it’s going to be a big seller :joy::joy::joy:

Not that it really matters to anyone but I use Reptichip and I love it! I almost have all of my guys switched over to it……

I hope JT stays in business with this product for a long time because it is great! IMHO of course! And Free Shipping!!!

Back in the early 2000s/2010s, my friends and I went a little off the deep end with Rick Rolling each other, each instance getting more elaborate and ridiculous than the last. Unfortunately I don’t think I can share the details of any on them on this forum, as they tended to be rather R-rated. One involved a funnel and a bottle of vodka. I’ve already said too much.

So I was born in the dark ages so I have never heard of “Rick rolling.” However after the “funnel” and “vodka” statement, I am fairly certain I am glad I missed it! :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

I definitely don’t miss getting THAT email :joy:

Seen this sticker a couple times recently. Definitely got me the first time.

In general, “Rick Rolling” was when you’d prank someone, then play Rick Astley’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up” to reveal they’ve been pranked. It took many different forms depending on who was doing it. A lot of it was virtual (like sending someone a link and saying it’s a video or article that would really interest them, and when they click it it just takes you to a video of the song).

At least for me and my friend group, Rick Rolling typically entailed pranking people in person by setting them up to walk into embarrassing situations, and then playing Rick Astley’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up” with perfect comedic timing.

Oh! Sounds like the scenario for a scary movie! Very clever! :joy::joy:

It was such a phenomenon that they tried killing it with the Macy’s Parade. They actually rock rolled the TV audiences too

That’s crazy! Man am I out of date! :joy:

Sometimes it’s better to be out of date and not know. For a long time I kept seeing a certain two-word phrase on social media, and I finally looked it up the other day. I immediately wished I’d remained ignorant.

This was a very interesting thread to look through!
Would anyone here with decent feeder requirements say that this pushes you more toward buying your own breeder stock to breed your own feeders?
I have no snakes (YET!!) but constantly weigh the pros/cons in buying bulk frozen compared to rearing and pre-killing your own, and I’d love feedback on how this import issue may influence that

I was already breeding my own because a few of my snakes were stuck on live for a bit and I had a couple of fussy hatchlings I had to keep up some mice for.

The local reptile shops were either out of the sizes I needed… Or the ones I would pick up just were not the healthiest.
So that was why I started breeding rodents.

I’m not too concerned about where the frozens were coming from… I at least hope they have some due diligence and went for a facility tour or had someone do a walkthrough on standards and care.
I just wished they were upfront about using other breeders. When they make it sound like an in facility producer, finding out they’re importing is just not good business to me.

Adding in as an aside, as a digital artist, I’ve been looking into companies for merch products off and on. The most popular by far is in China. Many people also use AliBaba for it as well. There just aren’t as many companies doing it in the states, so I am not as worried about that part. Just want companies to be up front
