Does selling on Morph Market Require a business or pet seller license?

Hi, starting a new topic since I don’t see it listed here, but I’m sure it’s been asked. So, I was checking out requirements for selling at a reptile show here locally, and part of it was a $200 Pet Seller License. This was in addition to the minimum of $100 to reserve a table, and then also, not to mention figuring out how to take a payment in the form of like a card scanner, etc. I am not ready for that level yet, since altogether I just have a small “family” of geckos, 13 total, so I was thinking a better way to start would be either craigslist for local pick up (saving on the shipping costs, and /or maybe selling here on MorphMarket if they have less stringent/expensive requirements, which would of course require the investment of overnight shipping / the approved reptile shipper boxes and labels, etc. Where would you all start if you were me? I haven’t made any posts yet, but my seller page is approved, and I’m considering the different avenues. I have 11 babies and 2 adults. I am gearing up, just trying to find the right solutions to start out that would make sense, in other words if you weren’t going to a show, since it would be like a one table deal, it just seems to be too much for the low inventory I currently have, although I’m excited by the idea of selling in person. Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? I built my own little free website and was thinking of just accepting paypal as the payment method. This would keep up front costs low until I can get the hang of all the various components of this adventure.

Nope. Make an account and sell.

That “Pet Seller License” might be a requirement in your state, and so worth looking into (we don’t have any such specific requirement in my state, but I do have a required seller’s permit for general retail sales).

State/county/local sales taxes are probably required for local sales (they are for animal sales in my state). Your state may require collection and submission of sales tax for shipped items as well (if your state has an ‘origin-based’ sales tax).

Keep in mind that at the federal level, money you take in from animal sales is considered taxable income, and in order to deduct expenses you’ll need to file business taxes.
