Draaken Cove 2026 Breeding Season

Breeding season is officially underway here, albeit off to a slow start. I have five pairs planned this year. I have only seen one lock but it’s only been a week so still time for things to pick up.
I’ll introduce first Anuket (Frost Anaconda het Albino) and her currently unnamed boyfriend who is a Caramel het Hypo possible het Snow.

This pair has potential for caramel with/without conda, Frosts (Caramel + Hypo) with/without conda. If the male proves het Albino then that also adds the option for Ultramel (Caramel + Albino) and Frost Albinos. I have witnessed one lock with them so far.

Next up is Eris and Mando, who is on loan to me from a good friend. This is the pair I am most excited for this year. Eris is an Arctic Anaconda double het Toxic (Axanthic + Toffee) and Mando is an Axanthic Anaconda possible het Toffee. I have not seen a lock between these two but Mando has been very diligent about wooing his lady and I’m really hoping I’ve just missed it.

If Mando proves het for Toffee then they can have normals with hets, Axanthics, Toffees or Toxics all with/without Arctic. There will likely be a good number of Condas and hopefully some Supercondas as well. And a couple bonus pics because they are so cute and I am forever amused at the size difference between males and females.

Third pair is my Cinnamon makers Fleur and Neville. I don't know which one the cinnamon is coming from as neither show it visually but if it ain't broke don't fix it right? Fleur is an Anaconda het Snow (Axanthic + Albino) and Neville is het Snow.

They have only been together a couple days and I have not witnessed a lock, however Fleur has already gained 40g in two weeks. So either she is just building up quickly after brumation or it's possible she had some stores left over from last year and is already developing eggs. Neville was the sire last year so either way it will be the same genetics. They can produce normals with hets, Axanthic, Albino and Snow. All with/without Conda and Cinnamon.

Next is Astoria (Superarctic Conda het Albino pos het Sable) and Halos (Arctic Sunburst Conda).

I am not confident that this pair is going to produce this year as Halos is on the younger side and appears very lost. I am likely going to try putting Neville with Astoria and see how they like each other. If Halos gets the job done then their offspring will all be Arctic or Superarctic, with a large number of Albinos and Condas and some Supercondas. If Astoria also has Sable then there is a chance for Sunburst as well. If Halos does not pair with her but Neville does instead then they will be condas, albinos and albino condas all with Arctic and possibly Cinnamon if Neville proves to be the carrier.

Last but not at all least is Bellatrix (Albino Anaconda) and Hufflepuff ( Anaconda het Albino).

Their babies will be normal, conda or superconda all het Albino, or Albino with/without Conda or Superconda. Again I haven't seen a lock with these two but with how seasoned they are I would be surprised if I haven't just missed it.

Crossing my fingers that the lads have success with their ladies and I have a bunch of beautiful babies in a couple months. I have only ever had two or three pairs at a time so with five this year (if they all get gravid) I am certainly going to have my hands full. I hope none of them double clutch this time

I’m excited to see all the babies Erin! But I’m not gonna tell Draaken! Don’t want him to get jealous!:smiling_face_with_three_hearts::snake:

Males are back in with their ladies this morning. I decided to go ahead and try Neville with Astoria. He wasted no time and within three hours they are already locked.

Sorry Halos but you need another year to mature. Neville doesn’t provide the best genetic match but I will be able to determine whether he is the cinnamon carrier or not. Worst case scenario I will get a few Arctic Albino condas, those will be nice to see.

No other locks seen but I wanted to share this picture of Eris and Mando because they are absolutely precious.

Oh Erin what a scrumptious little couple! Both look happy as two “hogs” in a pod! Or is that “tub”?. Or “peas”???

Yeah I know I have a warped sense of humor!!!:tired_face::tired_face:

I like hogs in a pod that’s cute!

Mostly a non-update. Not too much going on over here. I suspect that Hufflepuff and Bellatrix had a lock last weekend but no visual confirmation. I want to also think that Eris and Mando had a lock within the last couple nights, but again no witness. Anuket and Astoria have both gained 16g and 12g, respectively, since Saturday. It could very well be a poop put I’m crossing my fingers they are building eggs.

Fingers crossed for successful matings for all! I can’t wait for my little Draaken to grow as large as some of those in your pictures!

I hope those eggs are being built!

A few pictures of the lovely couples. Still not much to write home about unfortunately. The boys seemed to be losing interest a bit so I gave them a few days break. In order, Bellatrix x Hufflepuff, Eris x Mando, and Fleur x Neville. And yes Fleur used her water bowl as a toilet . I also just realized this morning that Hufflepuff is eight this year and my second oldest hognose. I feel I may have to retire him soon as he’s been noticeably slower this season.

C’mon guys! Man up and get the job done!

All 3 couples are so lovely Erin! I truly am hoping to see a bunch of. sweet little healthy hoggie babies later this year! Put on some Barry White. That should get the boys in the mood! :crossed_fingers::grinning:

I really hope so! I’m excited about these pairs. Might queue up some Barry White on Spotify today

All of the ladies except for Eris are looking quite plump. I’ll be weighing again on Saturday and I hope to see some substantial weight gain. They’ve been fooling me so far.
Fleur is very deep in shed. I haven’t seen any locks between her and Neville so either I’ve missed it, she decided she doesn’t need no man and built eggs without him, or she isn’t gravid and is just taking advantage of the extra meals.

I also noticed today that poor Bellatrix appears to have a skin infection on her tail. I suspect she is having a reaction to the coco husk in her lay box. For now I’ve removed it until I can swap out for sphagnum moss. I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow but until I can get her seen it’ll be chlorhex soaks.

And a bonus picture of Eris after digging around. She is very much enjoying her lay box, even if not gravid.

Fingers crossed for all the girls, plump or not! I bet Eris is hiding her “gravidness” and makes good use of that lay box!

Best wishes to Bellatrix with her little rashy tail! I’m sure she’ll be fine and your care/vet care. Draaken says Hi! He’s chowin down on his fuzzies! :snake::blush:

Hello Draaken sweet baby! You are always welcome to put his photos here if you’d like :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m hoping Eris is just hiding her size. She always sucks her belly in when I pick her up so it’s hard to tell if she’s plump or not.
