Drip, drop, leaky egg

I am so ready to see those cute faces. I bet your leaky egg is going to be a wonderful baby.

Im sure the babies will be cute :snake: , but my heart is with miracle baby Aurelius and his cute smiley face head stamp.

There still isn’t any action. I don’t like the color change I am seeing. Eggs always get less white as they near hatching time but this seems different. Guess time will tell but I don’t like it.

I mean, you could always cut a small slit if you are worried. I did that with Leaky, though if you’re not comfortable with that, that’s fine, too. It’d be a bummer if there was nothing to show at the end of this incubation, but sometimes it just happens that way.

I’m thinking I will make a slit tomorrow if nothing galena overnight. I have had DIE babies before, though thankfully not often. I hope that won’t be case with these last eggs. Tomorrow will probably tell the tale- one way or the other.

I will send all the positive thoughts your way. :people_hugging: :blue_heart:

With luck, it’s all just worries for not, and there will be one or more little ones to report back about.

Any news today?

Yes, there is. Some is bad news. The leaky egg was still leaking. I saw no movement when I candled before snipping into the shell. The fluid was getting a bit cloudy and had a bit of an odor. The egg contained a DIE Caramel Ghost. :disappointed_relieved:

I snipped a tiny slit in the shell of the second egg, also. Its fluid was clear and smelled normal. Not sure what’s going to happen with that one, but the clock is certainly ticking now.

So sorry to hear that your leaky little one did not make it. It sucks, especially when they make it so far. I hope for a better outcome with the remaining egg.

Thanks. Yeah, DIEs are always sad, especially when it seems they perish right at the last minute. Maybe the other egg will hatch. Not sure, but there won’t be long to wait. The slit I made was tiny but I expect that if the baby can hatch, cutting the shell will trigger some sort of hormonal cure that it needs to do so.

You can also run some tongs or other room temperature object across the egg to simulate other hatchlings slithering over and encourage hatching.

That’s a good thought. I very rarely open an egg and wouldn’t have thought of that. Merci.

Tbh picked that one up from a Snake Discovery video myself. If it makes sense and can’t do any harm, always worth a try.

Awww im sorry to hear that a baby didn’t make it. Yes in nature some babies don’t survive but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. Im hoping to breed my adult Rosys this coming breeding season, im not sure how id handle a loss. Im sure there was nothing you could have done differently, its not your fault.

Thanks. I really hate losing one. It hasn’t happened very often but it does happen on rare occasion. Nature doesn’t design every one to survive. It’s unfortunate but it is simply true. It does make me sad, but I know that it’s simply one of those sad facts of nature taking its natural course. Maybe the other one is okay. I hope so, at least.

I know you take care of your animals beyond just being a commodity as some breeders may be. Im just really happy that Aurelius defied the odds. Im sure if there was something you could have done, you would have.

I am so sorry that he didn’t make it :pensive:. I wish he did.

Thanks, guys. That means a lot.

Yes, my animals are treasured for the unique, living creatures that they are. I wish this little one had made it but it wasn’t meant to be. Nature can be harsh. Although it’s our job and privilege as caretakers to do the best we can, and of course our actions matter, sometimes we are given reminders that we aren’t truly in charge. This was one of those times.

As of this morning there is nothing happening with the remaining egg. The cut I made yesterday afternoon is barely a slit at all, almost a puncture. I thought something would happen overnight if anything were going to happen. I’ve got an appointment this morning. I’ll enlarge the cut before I go. I assume we’ll know today, one way or the other.
