I did take a little peek inside through the largest pip and the little one inside seems so light in color from the brief glance I got. I cannot wait for the little one to peek out more

I opened up the pipped egg a bit more earlier and the baby inside is almost like grayscale in color… not what I was expecting at all.
Very excited to see the full baby and how they develop in the near future.

I had one more baby pip last night, and I cut the rest of the eggs. A majority of them have that same unique greyscale look.
Probably going to be MIA from now until next week while I recover from an unexpected tooth extraction (ended up having infected bone underneath the tooth and an abscess 
) and then go on vacation but I will definitely be sure to do an update on all of the babies when they are out.

Thankfully most of the post-extraction pain I had yesterday went away with an advil and nap. Already at a full 24 hours of recovery and so far so good other than a scratchy throat and some sinus soreness. Not looking forward to the soft food diet though

I am extremely upset to make this announcement but I do believe the first baby to pip has crossed the rainbow bridge.
Unfortunately during my recovery a gnat got into the incubation container and when I went to check up on them yesterday the pipped egg was full of maggots. I tried to clean them out as best as I could but I don’t think anything I could’ve done past that point would have saved the baby inside. This one really, really tore me apart. The baby was still alive after the cleaning but this morning they were gone.
Here is the baby inside the egg after cleaning the maggots out.
All of the other eggs are fine, clean, healthy. I’m praying they will continue to be ok, I’m just devastated about the loss.

Oh I am so sorry about this misfortune Christina! I’m hoping the rest of the babies continue to come through. Rest in peace little one

That baby still has a lot of yolk left in there too…I wonder if there was something else going on regardless. The other eggs haven’t popped yet, right?
That really sucks though. Fingies crossed for everyone else.

That is SUCH a bummer, I am so sorry this happened! Hopefully the rest come out soon for you, strong and healthy. That baby really was a pretty one.

It’s a shame because that was a beautiful baby, though I agree with @armiyana that this baby might’ve had something else going on with all that yolk still in the egg.

I am so so sorry, that’s so upsetting. As @armiyana mentioned, there might have been more going on since the yolk wasn’t fully absorbed. Given that it first pipped almost a week ago, if it hadn’t come out on its own yet I’m inclined to think maybe something was wrong and it wasn’t fully developed despite pipping.
Sometimes even if you do everything right, things can still go wrong. I lost the first baby to pip out of Mango’s 1st clutch, it was living and seemingly fine, starting to stick its head out of the egg and then when I came home from work it had passed, still in the egg. No idea what happened

I was worried about that too but with the maggot issue took over my attention from what I could see the baby was fine externally. I will inspect further but I want to wait a few more hours just in case and confirm 100% that the baby is indeed dead. I’ll update if I find anything off.
I had one other baby pip a day after, and then I cut the rest. They are all doing fine, no maggots or anything else weird going on.

There was already a slight pungent odor coming from the egg so I went forward with inspection, there are definitely spinal kinks… I’m not sure if they are severe enough to warrant death after pipping or not but they are there, they could allude to other internal deformities as my guess.
The yolk also looked like it had never begun or had barely begun absorption, the umbilical cord was very pale and odd looking- like a messed up varicose vein is the best way I can describe it. Not sure if that appearance is typical

Kinks starting about midway down the spine, 1st one being the most prominent by feeling.
I still feel heartbroken over this, I could have prevented the maggots…

I wouldn’t beat yourself up about the maggots - they’re more probably an indicator that something was wrong than any direct cause themselves. They’re attracted by death, so I’d take a guess that the baby was already dead or on the way out when the gnat laid its eggs. Strange about the kinks in this baby, for sure. Fingers crossed the others turn out alright!

With that many kinks there probably would be an issue internally. I could be wrong but even the neck and head area didn’t look quite right either.
Heck… I ended up loosing a perfectly fine looking yearling a week ago… Fed them and then next thing I know it’s 5 days later and they’re extremely bloated and dead. I assume a torsion of some kind, but I didn’t want to cut them open.
Sometimes nature just sucks. We just have to keep rolling with it.

I thought the neck looked odd at first too but I didn’t feel any lumpyness or anything else off like I felt with the other kinks.
The worst one basically started right at the midpoint of the body, not sure if the little one would have been able to consume prey with that one if they had survived I guess in a morbid way that I’m glad that the little one won’t have to deal with it.
Everything else from an outside look seemed fine aside from the kinks. Definitely going to closely monitor the other hatchlings for a while, I’m really hoping that this is just a one-off thing and that the whole clutch doesn’t have issues… considering that I still need to figure out what’s going on with Pesto there may be genetics at fault (I hope not)- I’m still waiting for his shed test to come back with results.

I have one baby from last year still going strong with a nasty kink. But it’s the genes at play in mine. Got out of the egg and proved to be an active alert little one so I gave it a chance. The test of ‘can they digest?’ was a nailbiter.
Really hoping you don’t have to play that game with any others.
