Is it normal for an adult female hognose (118g) coming off a fast to refuse hoppers and only accept eating 2 to 3 fuzzies at a time instead of one large meal??
Her fasting lasts months.. Till I found out that she accepts only fuzzies. (No hair on them, or VERY short hair).
Anyone has adult hognose that accepts only fuzzies being adult?
I can compare to my male. In size also⦠Even though she fasted months and i didnt realize that she only accepts fuzzy for me. Still she is way bigger than my adult male.
Males are more prone to going off feed during breeding season, and that can last months.
What are her cage parameters (temperature, humidity, general setup)? Does she have plenty of places to hide?
Was it during the colder winter months that she went off feed? They do brumate, and sometimes will do so reguardless if we intend to, resulting in refusal of food.
Edit:
That is a LOT for a single feeding especially when a Hopper only weights a few more grams than a fuzzy. 2-3 fuzzies is the equivalent to 12-25 grams which on the high end is nearly double what a large Hopper weighs. If she is absolutely refusing to eat Hoppers in the meantime Iβd space out feeding 1-2 fuzzies every 5-7 days. Hognose snakes do better on smaller, more frequent meals anyway.
For reference my female weighs a bit over 300 grams and only gets a sm/med mouse every 5-7 days, if Iβm being real here a medium mouse is a bit much but she is intended to be a breeding female.
